    7/10 chin

4/10 recovery. Once badly hurt he was very wobbly.

Lewis was generally good at surviving and avoiding follow up punches once he was hurt, he rarely stood there taking full bombs or combinations in a row.

It's technically the only example of Lewis getting off the floor to win. Although he wasn't literally floored, the ropes held him up and the ref failed to score it a knockdown. Lewis didn't have a granite chin, but it was better than average. You don't take a hit from a guy like Briggs (and Lewis didn't even see it coming) and survive to win if you have a glass jaw. Lewis later praised Briggs as the hardest hitter he faced in an interview.

    Agreed.

Although it wasn't scored, there's an argument he briefly touched down vs Akinwande, before going on to win, too.

This guy faced bombers like Vitali Klitschko, Mike Tyson, David Tua, Shannon Briggs, Tommy Morrison, Ray Mercer, Frank Bruno, Gary Mason, Razor Ruddock, Mike Weaver ... etc.

If you survived punches from only a couple of those guys in that era, people would think you had a pretty decent chin. But all of them?

And the only two times he was ever stopped, or arguably even down for that matter, were by single shots thrown by ...

Oliver McCall (a pretty decent puncher), who threw a punch with his eyes closed that happened to land ... and Lewis was up at like four (only to wobble and have it stopped).

And Hasim Rahman, from one picture perfect bomb.

In Lennox's entire career, he stood up to every bomb thrown (except twice) by some of the greatest bangers ever (Vitali, Tyson, Tua, etc.). He wasn't a guy who got bounced around and had to deck off the deck here and there.

And, in the end, if you didn't stop Lennox Lewis with one shot, you lost to him.

The only reason I didn't give him a 10 was because that wouldn't be fair to fighters who were never stopped. And Rahman legit stopped him with one punch once. He couldn't get up.

(The McCall fight, on the other hand, I've always believed, should've continued. That knockdown was no worse than Snipes dropping Holmes. And when Larry got up, he fell face first into the corner. If he'd fallen face first into the ref, Snipes would've had a one-punch KO win, too.)

Otherwise, you really couldn't ask for a better chin. It stood up to some of the best punchers in boxing history.

He only hit the floor twice in his whole career. How many all-time great heavyweights can say that? Not so many.

    Solid 9.

    8.

He fought every big puncher of the 90s. Only down twice.

7, he only got clipped twice in 45 fights. One of those he was up. He was never ever knocked "cold". He's survived some big shots. It's a solid chin. Ain't no granite chin though but yeah, it's not average either.

Lewis has a solid chin. The problem is his recovery is crap.

On a scale of ten, I would give him a seven or eight.

Much better chin than Bowe's which is often described round here as being iron clad. Tested and passed, whereas Riddick went down and nearly out against an ailing Holyfield who never one punched a decent heavy, even when he was healthy.

His focus and concentration were occasionally poor but his chin was solid. Put it this way. Do you see Henry Cooper or Sonny Banks putting him down? Was he in any worse condition when McCall chinned him than Ali (Clay) was when our 'enery smacked him?

And yet Ali is seen as a top five chin. Rightly so, too. He proved it time and again but Lewis kept on getting in with 230lb power punchers, taking a few hits, surviving and winning. He proved it too. I am not Lennox's greatest fan but he deserves a fair trial and the respect that should come with it.

I voted 8, as on a 1-10 scale, I'm thinking he chimes in exactly around 7.5, so I rounded up.

    My "longer" take is here.

    Agreed 100%.

If 1 is "glass", 5 is average, and 10 is "iron", then I think Lennox falls dead middle of the upper echelon.

If anyone voted 3, I'd like to believe they really meant pi.
(And in all seriousness, I'm actually surprised we haven't seen many votes lower than 5, even if I strongly and respectfully disagree with those who did).

I know what you’re saying. It seems I’ve read a lot of opinions previously that would suggest that we might’ve seen more votes below 5 than what we do have.
