Who do you think is the best guy Floyd Patterson could beat?

I think he has a legit chance against Evander Holyfield, Michael Moorer (I think Moorer probably stops Floyd) and most likely Ali at certain points of his career.

I like to think a prime Patterson could maybe mix it up in there with a 68 Ali with a good back. Floyd is mostly considered the most trust worthy fighter of the HW champions and if he is saying his back was an issueI believe him.

 

Oh jeez- really? Patterson beats Louis. How does he do that bud?

 

I actually think the lighter Holyfield would be a more dangerous fight for Patterson, Evander lost a few steps climbing the totem pole. Both Spinks are a good shout and probably a gimme.

Holmes I think is a big favourite but it is by no means a mismatch. I think Floyd has a shot- Schemling he might catch quickly he might also be caught quickly. I don’t think Mercer or Shavers are a mismatch I don’t think either of them are better or worse then the version of Bonavena old man Floyd fought.

I’d love to watch Ezzard and Floyd fight. I think it would be interesting to see someone so bouncy, electric and reckless trying to press Charles- it would be exciting.

 

But also less then a lot of us think.

 

Speed, speed and more speed? He could also hit. Well with such a well thought out post I’m surprised this isn’t the consensus- Patterson via speed, speed and more speed by round 7.

 

That’s not why Conn almost won- he was as tall and as long as Louis and fought in a way Floyd hadn’t a clue about. He was a better boxer then Patterson, a much, much better boxer.

Patterson wouldn’t be improving upon Conns work he hasn’t got any of the traits to do so or the moves. Conn had a great chin too- Floyd was reckless not durable enough and there isn’t a man Floyd had in his corner who’d advise him to try to overwhelm Louis.

What do you think would happen if he boxed with Louis and stayed cautious? Who did he succeed against with that?

Do you think Floyd beat anyone better then Louis in a boxing match? In his older years he had a better temperament but he wasn’t any better then Billy Conn was he? What happens when he gets hit?

If Liston caught Floyd as a much slower guy then Louis do you think it’s unlikely Joe catches Patterson? In even his best performances he was always caught- who got off the hook against Louis?
