According to one source, Oakland/Boardwalk Billy Smith was still alive while in his middle 90s during 2016. - Chuck Johnston
My grandmother smoked and drank beer. She lived to 93. I should be so lucky. With cigarettes, I think her secret was to not inhale. Instead, she blew the smoke out on to everyone else. As kids, we copped quite a few free passives back in the day. Funny how times have changed. I remember the uncles, aunties etc. all drinking, smoking and playing cards at family get togethers - and the collective smoke from their cigarettes hung like an atomic mushroom cloud above the card table. Would’ve been a hoot if they were also wearing those special, protective atomic eye glasses. LOL.
In 2019 Billy, along with two of his siblings and his son were listed as owners of a property that was delinquent and going to collections. The property was to be sold to collect delinquent taxes assessed on it. Despite several attempts, none of the parties were able to be located. His son, an attorney, is still living. Maybe someone can find out from him as to the whereabouts of his dad. This is the same Billy Fox because I found him in the 1940 United States Census as "William McK Fox" age 14, born in Oklahoma. William McKinley Fox, the fighter, was born in 1926 in Oklahoma. It's got to be the same guy.
Larry Jones , a San Francisco featherweight/lightweight, was active from 1917 to 1925. It is probable that his real name was Lorenzo/Laurence Scafani. According to various records, he was born on April 14, 1899 and died on September 3, 1999. - Chuck Johnston
Billy Fox was reported dead in New York in 1986. It's evidently the right man because, although it doesn't mention his former profession, the names of his wife, mother, brother and sister all match up with earlier records. https://pasteboard.co/gF53nDLAeXdj.png
Sonny Liston's missing birth certificate was found and apparently it was dating back to 1868 which would have made him 102 years old when he died.
Bob Hope was well known, and he boxed briefly as a pro - “Packy East”, 3 wins and 1 loss I believe. He also boxed “exhibitions” against ATGs the like of Marciano and Foreman with his trunks hitched suitably high and…he also lived to 100.
Bob Barker? - close enough for old people. Bob B. will be 100 this year. One of the rare occasions when the rematch was as good if not better than the original: - This content is protected
