Disclaimer: Not all of the Fighters representing Kronk were home grown but did represent Kronk Gym and or its trainers at one point or another during their career. These fighters make the standard qualifications for a fighter to represent a gym in a boxing tournament. Catskill Gym New York VS Kronk Gym Detroit Michigan in a 10 man or 5 fight tournament consisting of 3 weight divisions. Who wins the tournament? Using the poll You can only pick 1 winner per fight..5 total Cus D'Amato is in the corner for all of his fighters and Emanuel Steward is in the corner for all of his fighters. Every Fighter is in their prime. 1. Catskill: Floyd Patterson - Heavy VS Kronk: Evander Holyfield - Heavy 2. Catskill: Buster Mathis Jr - Heavy VS Kronk: Tyson Fury - Heavy 3. Catskill: Mike Tyson -Heavy VS Kronk: Lennox Lewis -Heavy 4. Catskill: Jose Torres - Light heavy VS Kronk: Michael Moorer - Light Heavy 5. Catskill: Eugene Cyclone Hart - Middle VS Kronk: Gerald McClellan - Middle
If this poll does well l will do a Johnny Toccos VS Gleasons and the winner of this poll will fight the winner of that poll.
Actually quite close. Though Buster vs Fury is a brutal mismatch. Also it’d be fairer to match Torres with Gerald then it would be against Moorer… even then he might still be smaller.
It's odd that of all the fights I agree Buster v Fury is the largest mismatch. I give Torres and Patterson a better chance than most might.
The only guys on the list that were actually Kronk guys were Moorer and McClellan. The other guys were products of other trainers and other gyms. Saying that Tyson Fury is a "Kronk fighter" is a joke. A Johnny Tocco fighter thread? Everyone sparred there or worked there but none of them were made there.
Fury trained with Emanuel way back at Kronk and most recenently had Sugar Hill as his trainer against Wilder and Whyte. What are Your qualifications for a boxer to represent a gym that they trained at? Same with Toccos , whats your special standards?
Fury sparred at Kronk way back when, Kronk had not existed for years when Fury worked with Hill. Johnny Tocco never trained anyone. Guys used that gym to spar when in Vegas. You will not find any pro fighter that claims the Tocco gym, though many, if not most (of an era) have put in work there. That is like the Wild Card. That gym has produced zero fighters, but everyone has sparred there or worked out there. Most of the "name" gyms don't produce fighters. They are places that already made fighters utilize to have access to good, and free, sparring.
Johnny Tocco never trained anyone? Serious? He is one of Las Vegas greatest trainers. https://www.snshf.com/hall-of-famer...side Gym has been, and the fighters he trained.
I'm sure he did. If you are Top Rank fighter, or were at least, they would send you to the Wild Card. The reason that they sent you there was because of the sparring available- if you have been noticing/participating in things like this for years, you will know that sometimes a gym has a lot of fighters of a particular weight training there- it was certainly not for the 6 rounds of mitts that you got from Freddie who has been a gimmick for years. But you will still pay a percentage of your purse to that gym for use of the facility and for the sparring. But that doesn't make you a "Wild Card fighter" no more than that make Fury a Kronk fighter. Tommy Hearns is a Kronk fighter, Fury is not. Nobody is a Tocco gym fighter, though everybody worked out there. I think that Emmanuel worked a fight with Miguel Angel Gonzalez. Is he Kronk too?
You said Johnny Tocco never trained anyone and thats not true. He is one of the best trainers of LV boxing history. From my understanding and for the sake of any and all tournaments any fighter can represent a gym he is training out of and or using their trainers. I never compared Fury to Hearns either.
Johnny Tocco ran a gym that was convenient for people to use when they had fights in Las Vegas. I have been there . If you think that Johnny Tocco was training those guys you are mistaken. They used his building. When Mike Tyson had a fight in Las Vegas he used the Tocco gym; Johnny Tocco did not train Mike Tyson and Mike Tyson was not a "Tocco gym" fighter. Tommy Hearns was a Kronk fighter; he started there, he trained there daily, he sparred there. Tyson Fury was there briefly and I very much doubt that he would call himself a 'Kronk' fighter because to do so would be disrespectful and he wouldn't do it.
