I'm a fan of Calzaghe but honestly Beterbiev probably beats him up. Too big, too strong and a smart enough boxer to work out how to counter Calzaghe's style.

Jones caught him with his forearm and Calzaghe wasn`t hurt.

    Still got dropped.

    What about Hopkins?

Could Calslappy survive a Beterbiev onslaught?

B-hop was more skilled than Beterbiev and walked Calzaghe right onto that shot, Beterbiev isn`t as skilled as Joe or B-hop nor as quick as Calzaghe.

There are levels to this. Beterbiev is a rank below Joe. He gets worked.

People seem to forget how adaptable joe was, yeh, he got caught cold a couple of times, but only a fool judges a fighter on that....

Joe was and would have been a hard nights work for anybody past and present!

Questionable heart? I wouldn't question Calzaghes heart personally .. he wasn't a fighter who would run or hold in a fight ... & everytime he was dropped (Mitchell , Hopkins etc) he got up & was still game.. also had recurring hand issues that were exacerbated during numerous contests yet never quit.. & I wouldn't call him a simpleton whilst relying on lazy arguments like: 'well if Hopkins dropped him imagine what'.. never works like that, look at Sergio Martinez... he got dropped numerous times by the likes of Martin Murray & Richard Williams.. didn't stop him beating hard hitting Kelly Pavlik..
Regardless of all that tho Calzaghe was just cashing in at that point and had one foot out of the sport anyway. Hed pretty much done away with sparring for example.. & i don't view him as a LHW either so I'd have to favour the Russian here but next time you question a fighters heart or mental capacity on here it would be nice if you could demonstrate why you are in a position to do that? Because from what I can see you're just a screen name hiding behind your computer & have probably never set foot in a ring in your entire life

Calzaghe is one of the most overrated fighters on this board he would be stopped at the halfway point by Beterbiev

JC didn't fight at 175. He has fantastic output and there are few h2h I pick against him, but Beterbiev is the beast to do it. If it goes 12 JC should get the nod, but can he handle the ever increasing pressure from AB?

So if there are levels to this then why didn't Joe just step up to 175lbs and dominate there like Beterbiev is doing now?

Why was he so happy defending his WBO title for so many years under Frank Warren's protection? Did he lack courage or opportunity or something?
Remember, he WAS offered defences in America against RJJ and Tarver etc in the early 2000s when those guys were at the very top but he chose not to take it.

I remember the narrative surrounding Joe's career well before the Lacy beatdown and most thought he had all the skill but never the courage to go abroad and defend that WBOgus title. The Eubank fight was the perfect springboard for him and he didn't use it well at all....

You guys have recency bias and have made him into some ATG superstar.

Actually I boxed a lot in my early 20s but only in the gym. I dont have an official amateur record and I wont pretend to have one either.

Let me guess, you're some Golden Gloves champion or something with a 100% KO record?

It's so funny when you criticise Calslappy, all his fans come out of the woodwork telling you what an ATG legend he is and he would stop a 2x Olympian with a 295-5 amateur record and a perfect professional record

Is it the Welsh Dragon nickname that gives you guys an erection over Joe or something? Do you feel like playing dungeons and dragons when you hear his name?

    No he didn't.

Calzaghe was stationary. Hopkins was the one who came forward, feinted and caught Calzaghe with a right hand on the button..

Oh and here also, against Jones Jr.

No elbow. It was a straight jab and Joe was already going down. The forearm shot was just the cherry on top.

Still if you want to believe Calzaghe gives Beterbiev a wide UD without getting roughed up or mangled in there, good luck to ya.

He also pulled out of a fight against Glen Johnson 3 times I believe, now I'm not saying Glen Johnson would've beat Joe Calzaghe. But he certainly would've been more of a challenge and better name, than the likes of Tocker Pudwill, Mger Mkrtchyan, who he was fighting at around that time.
