Corrie Sanders lost to Hasim Rahman, had he won he probably would of earned a shot at Lewis. And when he beat Wladimir, Lewis was already retired i believe ? so unfortunately the timeline of events meant these two were never really on a collision course.

But lets just say Corrie Sanders gets a shot at Lewis in the late 90s or early 00s ? how dangerous would he be for Lewis ?

    A few things to mention.

Lewis never fought a Southpaw i believe, Sanders was extremely fast, had a dynamite left hand.

    I mean, of course.

I think Lewis would have won. You always go with the proven great in a fight like this. But a big, hard-punching southpaw with fast hands is a potential disaster for anybody.

Change the title to anyone in boxing history, even someone who beat Sanders, and the answer is still "yes." He had a very unpredictable skillset that got exponentially better when he actually trained.

Yes Lewis would have to survive the initial onslaught of hand speed, even Vitali who was known for having a great chin got staggered by him

Lewis himself said to Sanders that he wasn't too keen on facing him and that his team had 'concerns' about fighting Sanders. Now that doesn't mean that he didn't think he'd win, but it did mean that Sanders was a particularly dangerous opponent to face. So the answer to the question is 'yes'.

And anybody who has watched Sanders' career will understand why. He was an opponent with particularly hard and fast hands, who liked to unload in combination and whose straight left was an unusual and deadly weapon. Lots of his opponents complained that they simply couldn't see the punches coming in time. Nobody really wants to face a guy like that unless they have to.

Substantially more dangerous than John Ruiz, though I'd still favour Lennox.

Aside from being a southpaw, I think the Lewis opponent that most resembled Sanders in terms of attributes and standard, was Briggs.

I agree with catchwtboxing & Themessiah, Sanders would have been a danger to Lennox, particularly early, but I'd favour Lewis clearly.

Is that a little dig at me mate..........just kidding.

Yeah i think the biggest obstacle here is how Lewis deals with the Southpaw stance, since he never beat a Southpaw to my knowledge. And Lewis would have to be very careful early in the fight, as if he gets hurt Sanders could overwhelm him with a flurry of punches, and it would be hard for Lewis to recover.

Not at all mate, just expressing a genuine opinion.

Agreed Sanders would be dangerous early, as would Lennox. Sanders would become less dangerous, whilst Lewis more dangerous, the longer the fight goes.

I agree the longer the fight goes the better for Lewis, it's a shame we never see Lewis fight any of the known Southpaws of his era like Byrd, Moorer, Sanders. It would've been interesting to see if Lewis had any weaknesses to Southpaws.

And whether they had any weakness to the southpaw's nemesis, the straight right, given Lennox's wasn't bad.

Lewis would have been a nightmare style match up for Byrd. Given the huge differences in height & reach, Byrd couldn't outbox Lennox at range, he couldn't outmuscle him in close and wouldn't have been a 1-punch KO threat. I suspect best case scenario for Byrd, who I think is underrated P4P, would be a fight that resembled his vs Wlad.

Moorer & in particular Sanders at least had the speed & power to pose a danger to Lennox, though I wouldn't give either more than a punchers chance.

Yeah i don't see Byrd doing very well vs Lewis, the fight for me would resemble Wladimir vs Byrd with Lewis dominating behind his jab. Vitali in his fight with Byrd never really established a jab and that's why he struggled.

I remember i see an interview with Moorer asking about a possible fight with Lewis, honestly he didn't seem too confident in my honest opinion. But we don't know if Lewis would possibly have trouble with Southpaw stance and Moorer can bang, but honestly i think Lewis would KO Moorer without too much fuss who was quite chinny at Heavyweight.

Sanders atleast has the height, speed, power, and the Southpaw stance which Lewis wasn't used to fighting. And i think by far he poses the biggest threat out of the 3.

But still overall it would've been nice to see Lewis fight an elite Southpaw, just so we could've seen him against that style and ticked off any doubt, regarding whether he would struggle against a Southpaw.

You’d assume Sanders would’ve lose to Wlad but in reality… I think he’d have a punchers chance just like he did with Wlad.

Of course he’d be a huge threat to Lewis. I wouldn’t even try to pick a winner. Obviously Lewis is the greater fighter. So you can say Lewis but that’s why the fights are made.
