Hagler and for me it's not close.

 

You don't think Hagler reached P4P #1 after going undefeated for 9 years, being unified champ and racking up a ridiculous amount of defenses and beating Hearns?

 

I thought more Hagler, and I love Julio... I just think Marvin had two ways to fight and fought as a boxer and could change up and the Hearns fight I think takes him over the top. His courage and ability to take a chance like that proved his greatness.

 

Hagler IMO

 

It's twelve defenses and it's Hearns, a chinny former welterweight who moved up and fought him with an idiot's gameplan. He didn't actually unify. He just won two belts at once and the IBF eventually appeared of thin air at his doorstep.

Vuyani Bungu has 13 defenses and nobody compares him to Chavez.

Hagler, but I have both in my top 20.

 

You can argue for Marvelous to be top ten and he is definitely top 20 to me, but I have Chavez firm at #4 in my list behind Ali, Robinson and Duran.

 

I am a big fan of Marvin and feel he's a top guy somewhere in the middle of the middleweight top ten, a tremendous accomplishment but today Chavez has become a bit underrated .. he was an absolute beast in his prime .. the chin, the stamina, the skill , the body punching, the strength .. a monster at 130 to then go up and ruin the absolute best version of Rosario at 135 fighting that style no less , amazing .. I am no fan of what he became as some egomaniac , arrogant druggie believing his own BS and the terrible way Frankie Randall was robbed in the rematch and how Chavez went with it as well as the Whitaker robbery but when you think of the prime Chavez he was insane.
