This might be the co-main, which means El Chacal very close to competing. Stay tuned.

(it's either this or Yoanki Urrutia López vs. Luis Eduardo Flores Suárez, if that didn't already happen)

Parejo is four years younger than me but looks fourteen years older.

(in terms of hairline and face ...but he is tremendously fit)

Decent bout, sustained action in spurts, neither thrilling nor boring. Pressure from the youngster, two-handed high-hooking on the front foot and then ducking & weaving to work the body. Parejo planting himself long enough to return fire with some counter flurries and the skipping away, navigating clear of the ropes.

Straightforward torch passing match with no major drama.

    Official cards:

    80-69
    79-70 x2

UD for Ariel "La Maquina" De la Torre

Huh, guess there must have been a few knockdowns (and/or point deductions) in the first half.

New link for the main event courtesy of Doon Lara (think he's a member of Rigo's camp?)

    Round 1

Rigondeaux moves in on his fellow southpaw, wasting no time on a feeling-out process, jabbing him in the face, blasting through his guard and lathering up combos. Martínez tries some soft looping lefts after quickly realizing he's completely outgunned in a jabbing duel. They circle for a moment in the middle of the ring. Vicious overhand left and then left uppercut lead on a sliding-step inside by Rigondeaux. Martínez immediately wilting. Down off a series of roundhouse lefts. Up. Down again, over inside maybe a minute.

    KO1!

Just watched it back, 1 min 13 seconds. Okay so technically not quite "inside a minute", but still... pretty dominant return for El Chacal, and maybe the most savage battle of 42 year old (and 118lb) men you could ever witness.

Similarly quick finish in the One Featherweight MT world title fight which ran parallel to this.

Nasty. Yusupov is lucky that missed his knee by an inch or two.

This victory marked Rigondeaux's first in over three years (SD12 over Liborio Solis in early February of 2020 for the vacant WBA bantam title...which, incidentally, get this - remains vacant today and hasn't been contended for since then. Solis faces Takuma Inoue for it six weeks from now)

Just to clarify (I think) this vacant WBA belt is the plain old world champion belt. The super world championship belt which is the WBA top dog has been held by Naoya Inoue since he took it from Nonito Donaire in the 2019 Ring Magazine Fight of the Year. That belt has been defended by Inoue five times in the ensuing years. Inoue vacated the title in January of this year.

From this angle Rigo looks a spritely 52.
