Agree’d, he doesn’t really have to worry about the striking department aside from head kicks. His engine is ridiculous, and Jones sure does look soft. I expect Stipe to be more professional in his approach and actually train all aspects of MMA unlike Gane, and put on a great show unlike Gane lol
Miocic is 40. He's not beating Jones. He's used to fighting slow ass heavyweights, he's going to get beat up.
Yeah, this fight doesn't tell us anything about Jones's conditioning. He was breathing hard during the interview, so I think he the weight did affected him. It's going to be interesting to see how well Jones retain his stamina after a couple rounds.
Said it in another post. Easy take downs for Jones. Gane showed he has zero ground defence even against a complete ground turd in Francis.
I couldn't find a replay, and I'll want to see it before I really commit to this statement, but on initial viewing, that just looked so weak from Gane. Looked like he didn't even bother trying to get out of first gear to either stay on his feet or shed Jones on the ground. You don't have to be an expert to exert effort. There are gyms filled across the country of nobody's that scramble harder in sparring than it appeared to me he was trying. That being said, I understand it's hard to judge these guys in the moment. Maybe he underestimated the danger he was in and didn't want to spend too much gas to escape, thinking he will have future opportunities in the fight, idk. Bug on its surface it looked like a pitiful effort to me.
I suppose it was a worse sign then even I thought it was that a one legged Ngannou beat Gane by wrestling lol.
Still sketch as hell. Ether way that a clown show and a black mark on the sport. Multiple time PED cheat Jones who was out of the ring for 3+ years is now at the top of the company again. The UFC are licking their chops now because they "stuck it" to Ngannou, whether the fight was legitimate or not. No point in following the HW division with this scumbag conman at the top.
Jon's standup looked like me shambling out of bed at 3 in the morning to go take a p1ss, but I'm legitimately thrilled for his win. If he loses his title on his next defense, it couldn't go to a nicer guy in Stipe. I doubt that'll ever happen though, his interview with Megan Olivi was like listening to a Parkinson's-addled Ali.
Jones treated the number 1 HW contender like some random dude off the street who he had to choke out real quick after a 3 year lay off rofl
Opportunity to fight Jones or for the belt? Even if Ngannou had not left, Gane would have likely ended up fighting Jones at one point or another as he was the nr 1 contender.
im a very casual viewer of the ufc these days and really prefer the lighter weights in mma but is this an indictment of the hwt division? a very fat Cormier moves up and KO's the longest reigning or most defenses champ in ufc's hwt division jones goes up after 2-3 yrs off and easily destroys the number 1 contender is this a testament to how great jones and cormier are or is it a sign of just a really bad division? Not looking to crucify gane or belittle the win also havent seen the fight
