If you are selling it, the US:UK split concerns you as much as it's the predominant buyer, otherwise you care who else is, but what's sold is sold anyway.
It has indeed gone mad, but it was aimed at a different audience and they did well, good luck to them.
It’s not really that surprising. They both already had big followings before they started boxing. Most these people who bought it aren’t taking any notice of how good at boxing they are.
Reports were just over 300,000 buys. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/boxing/dillian-whyte-net-worth-fury-26754648 The undercard was terrible and Whyte refused to promote, so 800,000 sounds far fetched.
It tanked massively. Fury accepted PPV upside so the guarantees didn’t cause a huge loss. Fury Wilder sold well at a far higher price point in the US, so it isn’t a dig at his commercial value. But the reality is this fight with Paul did bigger numbers than Tyson ever has in the UK. Making some spend £20 to sit at home and watch a main event is increasingly difficult. It was an impressive number.
Both Whyte amd Chisora fight did similar numbers. I know the Chisora fight did 300k buys but was under the impression Whyte did closer to 400k buys
no, it makes perfect sense. there is still an appetite for people punching each other in the face, but “proper” boxing offers matchups nobody wants to see. even when it does, the interesting, evenly matched fight is buried under cards full of absolute guff, with promoters pretending it’s still 1973 and there’s no other way to spend your time and money
Appeals to a totally different audience. The Celeb football games often sold out Old Trafford too..I don’t think it’s effected Premiership Football.. It’s here to stay and it’s generating big sales. On a positive note this show provided some good exposure and money to the undercard fighters. I think differently pro boxing should try and get a foothold in it in some way. I don’t think the WBC creating belts is helping as the biggest issue for me is making a clear distinction between championship level boxing and “celeb/YouTube” boxing. ANYONE taking part in boxing should undergo the necessary medical tests and on-site medical care should match that provided on pro shows..this is where a statutory body (Government controlled) may help the sport. It could empower that all boxing is regulated in the same way and should make other forms illegal…
From him to you, or do you have a video? I'd be happy to watch it. I have no idea about AJ's fight. Maybe, maybe not. It's not a fight I'm personally all that interested in. Try asking on the other thread. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/april-1-anthony-joshua-vs-jermaine-franklin-02.697725/
