How come sons of great boxers are hardly ever as good as their fathers?

It's weird because we see it all of the time with football, soccer, baseball and basketball.

But it's very rare to see it with boxing.

Usually because they grow up rich, pampered and wanting for nothing. Far from the character building and toughening gritty lives of poverty most of their fathers were born into. So they simply lack the drive and hunger. Also, some people are just natural talents, and that's something you usually don't inherit. Look at all of the children of actors and musicians, who when compared to their famous parent, pale in comparison.

Floyd Mayweather Jr better than his father and both uncles, and also one of the best fighters ever.

I think Tim Tszyu has all the drive and determination of his father. He just doesn't have the talent.

Boxing is a bit different to the other sports you mentioned, in that you need to be a bit tapped in the head to do it. And even more tapped to be successful.

Everyones a son of someone though, it was likely joe fraziers dad had a go and wasnt very good, while joe is a great and then his son was very average. Lol

But the sons being more pampered answer is the correct one.

Who has been the most successful millionaire childhood boxer.

I think you misunderstood my question. I said sons of great boxers. When has Floyd's father and his uncles ever been great?

    Holyfield's son sucks
    Chavez son sucks
    Pacquiao's son sucks

Tyson Fury is another. But I think their pops had them in the gym very young and they were not well to do. So they had the drive that many sons of boxers did not have. But their fathers were not greats by any stretch of the imagination.

Roger was a beast, a legitimate two weight world champion.

Also, if Canelo keeps up the PED use and brown envelopes he will be on the cusp of being considered greater than his father GGG

Maybe Leon Spinks and Cory Spinks.

Leon was an Olympic Gold Medalist and the World Heavyweight Champion, if only briefly.

Cory was the World Welterweight Champion (beat Zab Judah, Ricardo Mayorga, Miguel Angel Gonzales, Roman Karmazin, Rafael Pineda) and moved up to middle and lost a split decision to World Middleweight Champ Jermain Taylor.

Michael Spinks ended up being better than both, though. ;)

It is strange, considering the other sports all pay really well, too, and many of those wealthy kids grow up to be excellent as well (particularly in baseball).

There was an old saying about boxing in the US that you could always tell which group of people were on the lowest rung of the economic ladder in society by who the top boxers were. It was never the sport rich kids took up.
