I don't really know much about Carlos De Leon, I've seen his fight vs Holyfield, and his borfest vs Johnny Nelson. Probably not the best fights that show him a good light. I know he had quite a few title defences, but again he came along when the division had only just been created, and there wasn't alot of high profile names there I don't believe. If anyone has a recommendation on any of his fights I'm all ears.
DeLeon, from 1980-85, should be too smart for Bellew. Whilst DeLeon could be lazy and had some disappointing results - KO 2 loss to S.T. Gordon in ' 82 - the 1st Gordon fight would be his only loss from '77 - 85 and he posted decent wins over the likes of Marvin Camel x 2, Gordon in the rematch, Leon Spinks, Yaqui Lopez (DeLeon was on fire in this one), Antony Davis and Bash Ali. Both at their best I pick Carlos to take a UD
Bellew for me. Game as they come and a punch like dynamite. Always enjoyed watching Tony fight. He got better with every fight imo. Win or lose. The peak Bellew takes the win.
Say what you like about Carlos but the guy won 12 title fights at CW. He was a very boring fighter but whatever his competition he still had the discipline to keep winning and more importantly to come back and win the title 4 times. Just this level of dedication and hunger for me gives him the edge.
