:think Who takes this mythical match-up of top level SBW's? I will set this over the old 15 round distance.
I'll take Erik Morales by K.O. No science to it, That's who I'd be going for. I don't think a peak Morales could be stopped at SBW even by a ferocious puncher like Gomez, and I don't believe Gomez could outpoint Morales, so Morales on points.
At 122, this fight is THE ****! Seriously, this is my personal pick as the best to be made at the weight. In his prime i would always pick him to win, except when he fought Barrera because of the high passion flying around on them occasions. Very hard to pick this for me, Gomez the greatest in the division's history most will agree, but Morales an absolute elite fighter in his own right there and h2h right up with the top tier. Erm, i'll pick Morales, because i think he wouldnt be stopped, and Gomez would try to bang him out, and get just as much as back. Any other day i may pick Gomez to edge a war.
I am a fan of both guys. Morales and Gomez would be a war. Neither guy would be willing to back down...I believe because of that 1 of them would go. I just don't see very many people stopping and/or beating Gomez at this weight. So in a mythical fight of the years...I would take a Gomez SD/MD in a 12 rd'r but see Gomez stopping him somwhere between 13 &15 in a 15 rd's...would be a great fight though.
Morales on pts Erik isnt out of his depth technically here & has that iron chin to discourage Gomez where other SBWs failed. Morales in his prime was something special & even struggling to make weight in his last ever fight at 122 he beat the no2 in the division in 1 of the ATG fights, MAB.
Gomez was a very good boxer in his own right. I'm not sure he could have done anything to beat Sanchez the night they fought, but pressuring him was a mistake and is certainly not the only way Gomez could fight. I think he'd mix it up against Morales, boxing and brawling a little when the opportunity presented itself. I'd take Gomez by late stoppage or decision.
No appology needed my friend! On the left is probably my favorite of the Philly boxers "Willie The Worm Monroe"...The one on the right "Bobby Boogaloo Watts...The 2 men to hand Hagler his first defeats!!!!
Oh, i know quite a bit of them, but obviously not what they look like too much!! Yea, 2 of Philly's finest that wernt crowned champions i believe.
Morales is just too easy to hit here. No defence at all compared to Gomez at his best. He's not going to win many exchanges with Wilfredo. An entertaining fight with Gomez winning nearly every round, possibly knocking him out.
Gomez is one of the greatest punchers ever and he was a very good boxer with amazing footwork. I think he would stop Morales in a war late.
Gomez either by UD or very late stoppage in 15 rounds. Gomez was the far better puncher, and the better boxer in my opinion as well. Erik's got height and reach, plus a superior chin over Gomez, but I don't see him winning. The further they move up in weight the better it suits Morales.
