Okay, maybe a bit of an unfair comparison because Povetkin already is a contender and faced tougher opposition..... but what do you think? I think Solis' defence is better; he is very adept at glove blocking and using quick, subtle evasive movements. However, Solis seems to have very little power, especially if you consider how fast and sharp his shots are. Povetkin gets hit more often than Solis, but that also has to do with his aggressive style and the fact he averages 70 punches a round, even over 12 rounds. Although Povetkin came in a bit too heavy during his last fight, i think in general he is in better shape than Solis, who could be lighter on his feet if he dropped a few pounds. I think Povetkin matches up better with Wlad than Solis does. The Russian's pressure and workrate might get to Wlad, although he can't eat too many right hands. However, boxing type of fighters without big power and equal or smaller in size, usually are easy victims for Klitschko.. Solis may turn out to be an excellent fighter, but either way, i think he'd struggle badly if Klitschko is still on top of the division when he's a top contender.
I think solis is nothing special now, he has alot of boxing skill and talent but seems to have got worse rather than better compared to his days in the ams.
I seen clips of Solis fighting as an amateur and he looked like he was in alot better shape than he is now. He was more defined and had more muscle tone ... now he's just a fat HW. I'm not going to say anything positive about this guy ... I haven't seen him fight. I've seen Povetkin fight and this guy has a ton of energy -- he throws punches in bunches, and he has good movement. So i'll go with Povetkin
Povetkin is a good fighter but doesn't have a lot of potential. A guy without a big KO punch, and without blazing fast hands and feet isn't going to be an ATG or anything approaching it. I think Povetkins stamina and workrate are special but without a big weapon he will fall short. Solis is fat as heck now though, but he has more potential and is the better prospect because if he gets in shape who knows what he can achieve. While with Povetkin, we pretty much already know his strengths/weaknesses.

Povetkin for sure has the edge in firepower. He also has far more experience both at the amateurs and at the pros than Solis. Besides my gut feeling somehow tells me that Solis doesnt take his chosen profesion as seriously as he should.I have no idea whether the rumour that he is quite fond of American junk food is true or not, but I wouldnt be surprised to see him balloon up like many of his American counterparts. Solis has god given talent so that he will make quite a lot of noise at heavy weight,but I doubt that he has the right determination and actitude to be a long reigning belt holder.
I think Solis is going to have a career similar to another amateur star in fellow Cuban Jorge Luiz Gonzalez. The dedication that was there for years as an amateur is going to bleed away over the years as a pro, and very few if any fighter escapes the effects of struggling with weight. Cubans especially have a hard time doing this, going from such a regimented system in Cuba where they've got barely any fat on their bodies period to living over here. Yeah... I don't think Solis is going to go the places he potentially could as a pro
