I was rooting for Plant, but glad David got the win just cause it’s better for boxing. As much as I didn’t like the holding, I don’t blame Plant for doing it, plus he had the perfect ref for it. But why?! Why was Bayless so intent on what seemed like protecting Plant? He wasn’t the a-side, not undefeated, already lost to the number one in the division. Isn’t this where the cards should be stacked in David’s favor?
"Never ascribe malice to that which is adequately explained by incompetence". No conspiracy, Bayless is just a dip****, plain and simple. This isn't his first bad night of refereeing.
Sad thing is, he used to be one of the best. You never heard a word about him and that’s how it’s supposed to be.

I doubt Bayless is a corrupt referee so much as he is an incompetent one. I've seen several of his fights now and it seems like almost all of them have him making bad or outright dumb calls, or the more recent ones anyways. One of the more bizarre calls happened in Rodriguez-Gonzalez, where Rodriguez hit Gonzalez with what was a very blatant low blow, which caused him to fall to the canvas on his knees. Bayless said that it wasn't a low blow... yet he didn't give Gonzalez a count and gave him time to recover. This despite him warning Rodriguez for the low blows earlier and even deducting a point from him. It could also be he enjoys having a bit of the spotlight, I've heard that tossed around before. Him cutting in so much makes him a big factor in the fight, therefore more attention on him. It's getting us to talk about him after all.
Bayless goofy ass shouldnt be the ref of an important fight anymore send his ass to the amateur circuit or retire him.
i think he was just upset that Benavidez pulled his hand away when he tried forcing them to touch gloves, lol.
But it´s different. There was a time when fighters were allowed to hold but not punch when holding. So if you held, the other guy was allowed to whack at you. Bayless lets fighters initiate clinches, but he doesn´t actually allow for holding as Bayless almost immediately separates the fighters. So if you want to take a break or escape a bad spot, just grab a hold and Bayless will save you by resetting the action.
Yup, I hope this is the last time we see Bayless in a major fight. He ****en sucked in this fight. Freaking bug-eyes idiot was letting Plant get away with a lot of **** and he panics for no reason. Even in his prime he looked like he was scared of something and would over officiate. Tony Weeks should have been the ref for this fight.
