Last heard of pounding the hard alleys of Windsor and Eton fighting his way back including playing darts in the hardest pubs frequented by loud Hooray Henry types. We are badly lacking background information on the boxers these days and my Geography has went backwards since he stopped informing us about the hard upbringing of every boxer from many areas of the world. Is he ever coming back to Sky Sports?
The fact it's silence on the whole thing means it's either legal ( in that he's moving elsewhere and has a no compete clause) or he's unwell and wants to keep it private. Anything else the papers would be on it.
according to randomers on boxing forums he’s in weeks old unwashed clothes spending the Sky boxing budget on the 3:10 from Newton Abbot
i dont care hes bloody rubbish im fed up with him get him off the screens for good hes a sleazy bloke a snake the way he comes across he is not to be trusted i wouldnt lend him a fiver
Adam Smith is having some personal challenges right now but I hope at some point he will return. Not a bad word about Andy Clarke - he's a good commentator - but I miss Adam Smith. The voice of Sky Sports boxing.
Khan v Brook highlights came up on one of my socials and watching it reminded me how nauseating Smith is when commentating. The constant verbal diarrhoea, just let us enjoy the fights. Not remotely missed for me.
Saw him up my way the other day. Fair to say he was being looked after by three guys who could only be described as being "teak tough."
Andy Clarke a way better commentator than Smith and really does his homework on fighters. Sky had Nick Halling who was a good NFL pundit, terrible boxing commentator, then Adam Smith is just a link man next to Johnny Nelson etc and again by the end of his commentating days he was more excited about which B/C level 'star' was at ringside than the action in it. Andy Clarke deserves his chance and has done a good job. We are never going to get to the levels of Ian Darke and Paul Dempsey again with Sky but some of the above mentioned were awful, pub level type knowledge.
Clarke might be less biased than Smith, but in the big moments during big fights Smith's commentary is unparalleled. I miss hearing his commentary during the main events. I hope he gets better and comes back. He also never lied about watching other broadcaster's shows / saying they put on a good card. He is much more likeable than Frank Smith at Matchroom and Dev Sahni at BT for example.
Although at times his commentating style has clashed with how I'd prefer to watch a fight, he's clearly someone with a genuine love for the sport who has achieved a lot for boxing. I don't like the continued classing of him as a 'wrongun' based on nothing tangible as far as I can see. Frankly, it's out of order, a 'low blow'. If he's fallen prey to one of the vices that plague us then there for the grace of god go I. I wish him and his family the best, a recovery, a return to boxing in whatever form best suits, but more than that, peace to enjoy his life and for those who love him to enjoy there's alongside him. Thus endeth the sermon.
