How would Sasha have fared at crusierweight? Could he have unified the crusierweight belts during his physical prime?
If he could make the weight, initial thoughts he would do well, but then again, he struggled with Marco Huck. He mad a career of being the smaller heavy cutting off the ring against bigger men, he'd have to adjust his style when facing similar sized opponents with quicker hands.
The man never weighed less than 219 during a professional fight. I have to think he would have been weight drained to make it under 200 pounds. In that condition he would have beaten some guys but he most likely would have lost to all of the top guys.
The only thing he lacked is a plan B, a way to adapt, but even so, he was just good enough to be a top heavy and a champion. His height gives him the opportunity to be a cruiser, even though he was a heavy his entire career, but I think he would've been just as successful at.
I always felt that Povetkin was undersized at heavy. The WWE wrestling match with Wlad comes to mind. Also remember at crusier Sasha would have been lighter on his feet and that would have suited his come forward, explosive style.
188 cm. is perfectly fine for a heavyweight, I think. Yeah fighters at that height in the lower weight categories are more the exception as opposed to the rule.

I'm being hypothetical and it's justifiable to seriously debate, as throughout the history of boxing we have seen fighters move up and down between the weight classes within reason. Your examples of Alexander Povetkin moving all the way down to flyweight and Nonito Donaire going all the way up to heavyweight are ridiculous.
Not just huck, chambers gave him trouble early as did Michael hunter. I agree being undersized created a speed advantage that he wouldn't have at cruiser. Same thing happened to Chambers when he moved down

He did fine at heavy. I know it is a bit of a joke, but boxrec has him as the #29 heavy of all time. Hard to say about cruiser. Boiling down was not the answer for Eddie Chambers or Chris Byrd. I think he had a good career as it was, despite his one legit PEDs bust, and the bizarre, now largely forgotten disappearance the first time he was supposed to fight Wlad.
I think it's safe to say Povetkin would have picked up the WBC world title against Makabu when Tony Bellew fought him. Heck, we would have got a Usyk vs Povetkin unification fight.
