1998 was Holyfields last hurrah, I could certainly see him going out there and putting on one last performance for the ages, but I can also see a guy like Akinwande making Holyfield look "old overnight". It's a shame this fight never transpired despite widespread demand from the people. Instead Holyfield took on Vaughn Bean I think it was and that was basically the beginning of the end for Holyfield. I think Akinwande jabs the S out him, with most of the clinch fighting going in Holyfields favor. But Akinwande liked to clinch too, and I think he would wear Holyfield down to a lackluster decision win and Henry Boy would take the belts (IBF was it?) back to the motherland
It was a really interesting matchup. Who knows? Evander didn't look so good against Bean in his only fight that year, and nobody really put a whipping on Akinwande, not even Lennox (because he couldn't get his arms free). It wouldn't have been an easy night, that's for sure.
We sure did miss out on a great one. I would actually favor Akinwande at that stage of Holys career, but he (Akinwande) would still probably get shafted by the judges
Holyfield on points natrowly and probably ugly. Evander was thinking about Lennox at this time and wasnt taking it that hard about anyone else.
I went with holy by decision. Sure he was past his best but Akinwande was kinda old then too. And he was a rather passive fighter
