They just won’t leave Tony Bellew alone...

It's hard to understate what Hearn has done for Bellew (and done to the rest of us as a by-product). Why Bellew has a well-promoted BBC podcast, which came off the back of Hearn getting one, is absolutely beyond me. Now he's a presumably well-paid commentator and cheerleader doubling as Hearn's bodyguard. And all the while Bellew sits comfortable as a multi-millionaire off the back of two ridiculous circus fights and a guaranteed loss.

You can see why he might have some ingrained loyalty to Matchroom but it's a shame we all have to watch it.

Maybe Tony thought Franklin was using PED's because that's the only way he could have gone the distance with AJ. He just wanted to go home to wife and kids but couldn't let it lie due to his zero tolerance of drug cheats.

Not conclusive there but does look like it could have been the case. Could also be lighting and the fact that Bellew naturally spits when he shouts which is disgusting in itself. Would be a fairly easy one for Team Franklin to corroborate.

Agreed - I can see why someone like Bellew (given the circumstances) would be so loyal to Hearn and by proxy Joshua too.

The difference with, say, Dev Sahni and Bellew is that Dev is self aware enough to be a bit tongue in cheek about it. Bellew is deadly serious and has 0 irony. It just makes him look like a hypocrite and a fool.

Yes, pretty much this, it’s laughable and not funny at the same time. Video of him being restrained by Bunce all over BBC news, embarrassing our sport.

Tony Bellend never spits when he is in the company of AJ or Hearn he always swallows.

Well given the fuss Warrington made of Lara allegedly spitting at him, let's hope for equal treatment.

Bellew appears to have a semi-permanent piece of gum in his mouth so maybe that just got dislodged.

It is so hilarious that they have him do the ringside scorecard for AJ. Probably do not even bother to ask him to fill it in.

Good post, and all very true.

What does not get mentioned often enough is that Bellow only earned big money and got his first 7 figure pay days in the final 3 fights of his career- all orchestrated by Eddie Hearn without whom none of that would have been possible. He earned 10 million for those 3 fights, money he could not have dreamed of before that. Leading up to the Makabu fight he was still paying a mortgage and living in a modest house, trying to support his family. So it's no surprise how loyal he is towards Hearn and his devotion to him, I think a big part of it comes from genuine gratitude, because his life would have been very different today if it was not for EH/Matchroom.

There's the two circus fights against Haye, under the pretense of a 'beef' which was laughably fake and fabricated, and then Usyk calling him out in the ring knowing it's an easy PPV pay day against a fighter much inferior fighter who was if not retired certainly about to retire.

Bellew was lucky to win a world title (vacant belt, in his home town, against regardless of what anyone says a poor opponent). He's never been close to being a top cruiserweight (or LHW for that matter), and avoided Breidis like the plague.

For me the most cringeworthy thing about him (and there are many) is his 'friendship' with Anthony Joshua. Never fails to make me laugh the way he worships Joshua, I think that more than anything shows his total lack of self awareness. The funny thing is that it's so clear the feelings are not mutual. AJ is at best indifferent to him (finds him annoying but harmless) and at worst can't stand him and wishes he would disappear.

I’m not one to try and get a man sacked (even though I’m about too) but this guy genuinely makes me have to mute the TV everytime he’s on and surely as a consumer you shouldn’t be doing that, I’ve yet to speak to ONE person who actually likes this guy, he is completely biased, he screams his head off at ringside for his mates, he offers no actual constructive points, his analysis is terrible, and this is the second time he’s been in an altercation outside the ring during one of his mates fights. It’s not like him and AJ go way back, they aren’t childhood friends ffs, this is a grown man who is so desperate for another man to like him, it’s pathetic.
Is there any way we could get a petition going to get this guy gone? Because I honestly think even the bosses at Dazn will want him gone, they just need an excuse to pull the trigger on him.

I see he posted this tweet, essentially admitting (something we all knew already) that his analysis will never be remotely objective.

You wouldn’t find this in any other sport, it’s ridiculous and not what should be happening at such high profile events.

They really need to get rid of him, sooner rather than later.
