Hard to say, Roy was such an athletic speed freak in his crime and that makes him a stylistic nightmare for anyone he faces. At 160, I think Hagler has the best shot. At 168, maybe Calzaghe. At 175, I pick Foster.
Someone, but it is very difficult to say who. It is clear that he always had underlying weaknesses, though it was far from clear at the time. A lot would depend upon who picked up on his weaknesses, and who had the right plan to beat him. A lot would depend upon who retreated into self doubt, and who came to it with a can do attitude.
Everybody’s got a plan til they get hit with a rock … in this case a rock that’s just a blur they can’t see coming. I think at super middle it would have to be a fluke. I can’t think of anyone in history at 168 who I’d pick over Roy Jr. Light heavyweight, I’d go with Spinks. Middle, Roy Jr. wasn’t mature yet but he was still a force of nature. He’s all wrong for Hagler. I’m not sure Monzon could do anything with him either. Ray Robinson might be too small, not enough to match Jones physically. I’m running out of options.
Middleweight - Hagler. Maybe Robinson. LHW - Spinks, Charles. Jones was freakishly good in his prime.
I would probably make Michael Spinks a favorite over Jones at 175. Not necessarily a HUGE favorite but I think he deserved the benefit of the doubt. At middle weight I may go with Ray Robinson or Hagler but again only marginally. Not sure who I’d favor over Jones at super middle but I think Jones vs Andre Ward would be an incredible match
I love Hagler, he's among my favorite boxers, but ain't no way he's ever beating Roy. You need speed to be able to beat Roy, and Hagler ain't got it. Foster, not way. He has the power but again, he lacks the speed to land. Calzaghe perhaps, but he only has a slim chance.
Middleweight Michael Nunn, Gerald McClellan, Sugar Ray Robinson. Super Middleweight Frankie Liles = beat Roy Jones twice in the amateurs and floored him, he was a Southpaw and may of had Jones's number who knows. Light Heavyweight Michael Spinks, Michael Moorer, Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Marvin Johnson, Bob Foster, Ezzard Charles. I'm not say all these fighters would win BTW, but there's no way Jones wouldn't pick up a loss or two somewhere down the line. Just a few things to point out...... Jones was green at Middleweight. Jones at times did seem to have a few issues vs Southpaws he struggled against Harding, was floored by Del Valle fairly heavily, and obviously got KO'ed by Tarver. That's why i chose a few Southpaws like Liles, Nunn, Johnson, Moorer, etc. And finally Jones wasn't unbeatable at Light Heavyweight, there's plenty of big hitters here that would of got him out of there. The only weight where i would heavily favour Jones against most would be Super Middleweight, but as i said a very underrated champion in Frankie Liles dropped and beat Jones twice in the Amateurs who may of had his number.
Middleweight: Hagler, Monzon and Robinson have a fair chance Super Middleweight: Nobody Light Heavyweight: Spinks, Foster, Charles all Fave and Qawi has a fair chance.
