Don't think that fight lasted long enough, for Shavers to land his Sunday punches and I doubt Quarry would've stayed upright had they landed.

 

Ali more than proved he could withstand Shavers' power.

 

Tex Cobb and Muhammad Ali did.

Others that would Tua, Mercer, McCall, 90s Foreman, Vitali.

 

It’s not often noted but Shavers was clearly having traction issues with the canvas when he fought Cobb - Tex himself slipped a bit a few times IIRC.

Not saying that Cobb doesn’t still hang tough and remain upright, but it had to take from Earnies power in some measure - as Earnie himself claimed after the fight.

The slippery deck would’ve also lent to and hastened Shavers’ fatiguing.

For one, I would guess that Chuvalo could take Earnie’s right hand - but perhaps not without being stunned or wobbled to some degree.

There are some chins out there that are just inhuman.

 

To be fair, Shavers was on a decline when he fought Cobb, and had retina issues that eventually led to his retirement.

Also, didn't he get a knockdown around the 6th or I misremembering?

 

Could we afford absolute peak Liston the honour of surviving Earnie’s best, single right hand bomb? Personally, I think more likely he does than not.

No, there wasn’t a KD ruled against Tex vs Earnie - I’d have to review that round as there might’ve been a slip ruled though.

 

And that name brings to mind Ron Stander also. Though Ron certainly didn’t survive Jeff Merritt.
