If SRR Had To Share the 1950 s With Marvin Hagler!

Hard to say considering the lack of footage on Hagler for his first pro 30ish fights. Leonard was filmed from the Olympics on forward. They both had Spirit that's forsure.

 

SRR fought most of his career as a 147 division.Didn't fight his first fight as a MW (160) until he was 29 years old.Having said that he did win the MW belt a record 5 times & at a time when there was only 1 belt for every division so you fought the best to win it & the best against to defend it.That fight would have been one for the ages I believe it would have gone the distance had they fought back then which would have been 15 rds.This is one fight where i can't pick a winner.I Robinson the greatest WW all time & greatest MW all time with Hagler in a close 2nd but who would win had they fought each other in their prime don't know.

 

Hagler has the edge on him, of that I'm sure. SRR was too small for him imho and Hagler was too tough and relentless. Imagine LaMotta had world class boxing skills : where would SRR be at 160?

I must have stopped reading after SR and assumed the L was there. I was kind of close though initial wise anyway.

Wow! I could easily see this being a series, and quite possibly more than three fights over the decade. I would see them all being nip-and-tuck events, with every one going the distance with no knockdowns despite their respective reputations. I would give Robinson the advantage during the early fifties, up until his first retirement following the Maxim fight. Thereafter I would favor Hagler.

 

I'd have to give that to Marvin, though he'd probably have to settle for a majority decision. Ray would acquit himself quite well, but I think the more effective punches would be Hagler's.

 

Well Robinson was 5'11 & a natural 160 pounder if he wasn't he wouldn't have won the middle weight belt a record 5 times.He won it 5 times when there was only 1 belt meaning you fought the top contenders.Here is a guy who lost 1 fight in 128 fights.There is a reason why most rank him P4P the best in fact P4P came out because of him,he was so great that they started to compare him with other greats from other weight divisions & thus P4P was born.He didn't even fight his 1st fight as a MW till he was 29. Hagler is one of my favourite boxers of all time & i can't pick between the 2 both are the top 2 greatest MW.

 

Definitely a trilogy in the offing,Fergy. Split decisions all the way to with arguments as to who won.
