This is one where, if one guy came along in the others day and developed in ratio to how he had developed in his own day, it's an interesting fight. I think a 1890's Corbett taken to 2020's may (or may not) get an opportunity to show his talent and acumen, but would have a hard time going 12 without at some point getting his time card punched out. But a Corbett-potency coming along in Wilder's day would have a live chance; toughing through landed puncher bombs wasn't ever a Corbett strong-suit, though.
The best punchers that Corbett faced, typically got clowned, but they generally got him in the end. You would need a good reason to suggest that this was going to be the exception.

Carry on!
Surprised Sullivan did that well, I always heard it was a blowout but 5 rounds isn't too bad. If the fight was 10 rounds he would've only lost 6-4
Were you the sole judge at the fight, Boss? It seems John L staged a bit of come back in round 17 no less, winning his first (and ultimately last) round since round 10.
Yeah, just kidding my friend. If my readings and calculations are correct, you were born in 1924 (during Jack Dempsey’s reign), turning 99 this year (if not 99 already)? That would put you in Sonny Liston territory, lol. Joe Louis of course was born in 1814, given his being 137 years old when he fought Rocky Marciano.
I thought I knew where this was going but you swerved me. However, if he had Wyatt Earp on his side and Wyatt drew his Buntline Special .45 Colt with the 12-inch barrel and unloaded it at Wilder … Corbett might have a chance. Say what you will about Wyatt, but he showed at OK Corral that he was a pretty good marksman.
You’re just being modest. I saw you post in the heavyweight rankings from the 1880s thread and figured you were going to give first-hand accounts, haha.
Well now you’ve got me thinking (dangerous, I know) but if Wilder enters the ring in one of his bells, lights and whistles robot costumes, maybe Wyatt shoots him on sight just for that - pleading he didn’t know WTF it was, felt threatened and therefore acted in self defence. Cowboys vs Aliens. This photo has been alleged to be Wyatt’s GF and/or later wife (maybe it’s been debunked since, I can’t recall).
