Anything could happen in this one. Rosario was so powerful and this was his best weight. Arguello had a little more class and wasn't lacking power either.

If nailed down I'd have to go with the skills and experience of Arguello. The timing, combinations and as stated before a decent height advantage.
ETM stoppage 10th sounds about right.

If you speak Spanish and have a yen for etymology, my friends, you already know the answer. Arguello comes from the Latin term Arguellicus Mellitina, which means, loosely translated, a type of paper which is so strong it can be used in a pinch for armor in battle. It literally means something more like "rough paper sheaf." But the term is more like a tough piece of paper with which you can protect yourself. But Rosario's surname traces back to the time when his family made rosaries. His name is occupational, "meaning maker of rosary." But if you look even deeper, you will find that Spanish rosaries used to be made of stone in the time his family first began to use surnames. The masonry involved in this is truly remarkable and their family took understandably immense pride from what craft they knew-craft which has since been lost to generations of men who cannot do what was once done. But stone/rocks...well...paper covers rock. Arguello, KO8.

What an awesome fight that would have been. Arguello was a great LW and Rosario was also a dangerous one who is capable of hurting Arguello. I think Arguello would have been too surgical for Rosario though. Rosario always never fully recovered whenever he got hurt and in trouble. Still, would be a helluva explosive fight between 2 bombers. I think it'll be similar to Arguello's fight with Gannigan, who was also a huge puncher.

Alexis in a nailbiter. Edwin could possibly floor him early, but when Alexis gets up, it is going to get turned up a notch, and by the late rounds, Alexis is back in contronl. Shame that Edwin changed his style.

This fight almost took place in 1983.

To me Arguello is too superior.

Agree with all this except I would say Arguello was very good at 135 and I don't think Rosario beats Arguello unless he bombs him out early a la Bramble. I think this fight is similar to the Gannigan fight with Chapo having his moments but with Arguello eventually getting the distance and stopping him.

On a side note, it's too bad that Ramirez stunk up the joint against Mancini because I would have like to have seen a rematch for the title with Arguello.

Arguello KO no later than round 6.Arguello to polished, has the reach height & a great chin.As a champion at 126-130 & 135 never lost his title belt always gave them up to seek belts at higher weights.Had Arguello fought anyone else that night for the 140 belt Arguello would have become the first boxer to have won belts at 4 different weight divisions. We now know Pryor took Asthma medicine (quick acting) in their first fight & in a tough 15 round brutal champion ship fight like they were in would have made all the difference.People will say that he never took any in the second fight but as they say in boxing its 50% mental & 50% physical & because of their 1st fight Pryor had the mental advantage.Arguello also had 80 fights under his belt & was 31 year old in a 38 year old body.Arguello fought & defeated great boxers in 4 different weight divisions & Rosario would have just been another notch under his belt.

Ramirez should be in the IBHOF I just wrote them another letter about him, Santos Laciar and Marvin Johnson. Maybe if I keep insisting, who knows1

I'm not totally sure of the time line but didn't Rosario sort of abandon his boxing and fall in love with his power at some point? I suspect anyone who tried to slug with Alexis would become unstuck quickly.

Arguello is no Bramble,he is about 4 levels up from him.Gannigan is one of the hardest light weight punchers of all time & probably hit harder than Rosario & Arguello took his best & stopped Gannigan in rd 5.That was a good fight.

I agree,he was a great fighter & don't know why he never became as popular as Chavez. He had over 100 fights & a great KO record .I think because he lost the big fights but was still competetive.

I flat out hate the arm placement of Rosario against a guy like this. Brutal ko and he goes out badly and early.

Also why I gambled a lot on Chavez when they fought. That elbow way out style is horrible against a body puncher. And Alexis had a great right hand to the body. It is also easy to come right over the top and land clean to the head. You do not want to be giving automatic openings to a guy like Arguello.

I agree, I don't see Arguello getting bombed out like Bramble just that I think that's how I think Rosario would have to win...Yes, that was a very good fight, I think Arguello - Rosario would be pretty good while it lasts, too.
