I don't think that's true. The nature of boxing promotion means you can be shut out if the money says so - the 'big 4' will do their deal if it's on the table and the governing bodies will play along for the kickbacks. Joyce would never have gatecrashed that. It's a shame for Joyce and I hope he has a few cash-out fights before he chucks it now, because he was probably locked out of the title picture regardless, due to his age and the landscape ahead of him. Whatever you think of Dubois, Warren has probably been right to build him up towards a mandatory because if it goes wrong, he's still got another 10 years yet, Frank Bruno style. Joyce had one run at it and won't get there.
Absolutely gutted for Joyce, seems one of the genuinely good guys of the sport. I only caught the highlights but it just seemed Zhang was all wrong for him on the night. Congratulations to Zhang still though he fought a great fight.
Agree We all want to see good fights and last night was a very good fight. Very sad that people care more about Promoters than fights.
Any combination of Joshua, Joyce, Bakole, Wardley and Dubois over the next year would give us some good fights.
Explain Any of those 5 in the ring together would be very entertaining and generate huge interest amongst British Boxing Fans.
Always the same sad few unfortunately (you have to question what types of life they have!). A shame as I imagine more people who browse the forum would join and post if it wasn't for this strange behaviour. Ultimately, more members generates good conversation and debate and all forums of any sport thrive on that, but I imagine if every time you browsed a topic you kept seeing comments like 'Tiresome' it becomes exactly that and Ultimately off putting.
I'm very careful to just put this on one promotional outfit, I know there is clear football style bias on both sides. Can we agree that the tribalism needs putting to bed?
This is why I don't understand when people say AJ should retire, Whyte should retire or Wilder should have retired after Fury. It's like people don't want to see a fleshed out division with multiple good fights.
Wardley v Chisora or Whyte or Dubois v Chisora or Whyte type fights would be great fights for the development of both with the outcome uncertain in all these fights. Any upcoming fighter needs these reality check fights if they are going to challenge at the top table. Many good fights to be made but for whatever reasons these are not happening. Still sickened by Fury ducking Usyk.
