Just finished this excellent book this evening, it gave me a look at the great Murderer's Row.

So many great possible champions that never got a chance to win the title due to various reasons.

    Highly recommended.

It's a great book. One of the best readings one can have about the "Murderer's Row".
Toledo also wrote a very interesting book about Harry Greb " Smokestack Lightning: Harry Greb, 1919".

    Peace

Haven't got around to the murderers' row book, but Smokestack Lightning was very good.

Pretty sure Toledo has posted here from time to time.

Unlike another author (of the self-published variety), he’s not an *******.

Agreed it is a superb book and in my opinion a book that just had to be written. I emailed him after i finished it to tell him what i thought of it. Also if you haven't seen it already make sure that you check out the footage of Holman Williams that he put on Youtube.

Another member @JohnThomas1 alerted me to Springs and his book Murderers Row - and there is another Toledo book, Gods of War, which looks interesting also. Being miserly, I’m waiting for Amazon to come up with a special discount offer. Thus far, no luck. Good things come to those who are patient (and tight with their money).

Yeah, he has, a while back. @JohnThomas1 pointed me to an old thread that Toledo had contributed to - he comes across as very polite in discussion and not at all pretentious - but still someone who knows exactly what they’re talking about. Very cool pen name too.

Why the knock on self published authors?

There’s nothing inherently wrong with being self-published, but when someone decides to be a pompous ass who thinks his assertions can’t be challenged because he ‘wrote a book’ (and answers every challenge with ‘you have to read my book or you aren’t worthy’) then it’s fair to point out that anyone can have their own book published if they care to pay to have it done.

You, me or the guy down the street can be a self-published author if we can stroke a check. It doesn’t mean we are the end of all knowledge on the subject (or in the case of the person I’m talking about, that we know everything about everything and by the virtue of typing our takes on a forum we are handing down tablets of wisdom from a mountain).

If you’re good enough, you can find a publisher who will foot the bill for publishing and marketing your book. Even if your first is self-published, if it meets a certain standard then a real publisher will want to add you to its roster.

I can make a video and post it on YouTube. It doesn’t put me in the same company as Martin Scorsese.

Stonehands89 is a top guy and was a top poster when he had time. We had many exchanges of info and opinion, it was great fun. Obviously he knows his stuff and can certainly carry himself well in debate. He treated others how they treated him.
