Thomas Hearns Or Mike McCallum - At Light Middle, Who Comes Out On Top?

I think Tommy edges it at 12 rounds with his speed. 15 rounds is more questionable, since Tommy might just lose steam just on the distance rather than Mike. But I think Tommy had greater speed, and if this is 1984. I give the edge to Hearns, even at 15 rounds if he fights smart.. No big chances.

 

Nobody ever outboxed Hearns, and as skilled as McCallum was he isn’t going to do it either.

Hearns also has a huge edge in power.

Could the Body Snatcher wear him down and get a late stoppage? It’s possible, but I doubt it.

I'd pick Hearns (not confidently) but if ever there was a guy that could actually box "with" Hearns and stand up to his power, it's Mccallum. End of the day, Hearns was "never" outboxed and Mike has been.

That would be a very high level chess match.

 

McCallum was a real solid pro of a fighter who could have fit in with the old school guys of the 40s and 50s.

I don't think he was unbeatable either, but I thought very highly of him and he would have won his share against anyone of any era.

Hearns could beat anyone, just as long as he didn't get tagged. This would have been a good fight. I can see Hearns winning a decision, but can also see Mike stopping Hearns later.
