Would Holyfield have survived a beatdown from Tokyo Douglas?

The most an unmotivated, under prepared Tyson managed was 10 rounds against Douglas. What about Holyfield though? He cam take a bunch based on the Foreman and Bow fights, but he seems not to be able to withstand punishment quite as well as Tyson could.

 

1. Holyfield isn't showing up unmotivated and underprepared. While he might get a Japanese hooker or two the night before, he's not staying up late, and he's not drinking or doing drugs. So, odd premise.

2. Can't withstand punishment as well as Tyson? Remind me again how both of them fared against Lennox Lewis?

As to fighting Tokyo Douglas, that's a rough fight for anyone, but he's not going to make the same mistakes Tyson did. Even if he loses, it's not going to be some beatdown.

 

He took way more punishment from much harder punchers FFS

Tyson was drugged and washed up when he faced Lewis, Holyfield was still in good shape when he did, roided to the gills.

 

What beatdown? Even in 1990 Holy could have beaten Douglas.

Douglas put on a performance that came across a lot like a third rate Larry Holmes. Mike's mental and post-partying physical gifts were significantly diminished at this stage, this was a far cry from even the guy who wasted Carl Williams. Granted, it still looks terrible on Mike's record, no avoiding that. Doesn't change the fact.

Best Douglas could hoped for with 1988 Mike was getting stopped in 6.

Holy would have caught up Buster in 10 at the very outside.

 

He wouldn't have to take a beating, as he would have soundly outboxed any version of Douglas.

Holy can take a beatdown as good as anyone so let's say hypothetically he has an off night I'm sure he can survive whatever Douglas has to offer.

 

No beatdown, but a decent fight. Douglas was fully motivated, very determined, fully focused and on top of his game. Holyfield would also have been the same. So all those things being equal, I would go for a Holyfield win that night on the grounds that he was the superior fighter. UD Holy…or at worst, MD.

 

Really, you do not think Douglas was excellent in form, strategy, motivation, size, adjustments vs. Tyson?
Tyson was dissipated then, but I think peak/for that one fight Douglas was like a FIRST rate Larry Holmes!

Tyson wasn't at his best, but he wasnt how you described him. He still fought his *** off in that fight.

I think Tokyo Tyson still wiped out most of not all of the HW division of that night.

Anyways, I still think Holy beats Tokyo Douglas, might just get dragged into an all out war in the process.

All cliches aside, Tokyo Douglas and the Douglas Holy KOd 3 weeks later were still the same guy. Sure Douglas was out of shape, but he was still the same guy, coming off a KO win over Tyson. I've never bought the narrative that fighter A on one night is completely different than on any other given night.

Fighters age. They come in and out of shape, but they're still the same guy inside
