Most underrated Middleweights of all time

Fred Apostoli, Charles Humez, Len Harvey (in reference only for the Middleweight although he fought from Flyweight to Heavyweight), George Chip, Les Darcy, Tami Mauriello, per example.

Tiger Flowers is underrated. He’s brushed off as Greb beating shot but Tiger but fought him even three times, was about the same age and had his own excessive mileage. Then loses a razor thin decision to another all time great in Walker. At middle Tiger could really fight.

 

Greb was fading significantly by this point, though the vast majority of newspaper reporters felt Flowers deserved the decision against Walker. Had he been awarded it, he'd have have won the title vs Greb, successfully defended vs Walker and who knows what he'd have gone on to do in the rest of his reign, but no doubt history would have held him in higher regard.

 

Freddie Steele never seems to get mentioned here anymore, h2h.. .Tough ****er out of Washington

 

Never heard of this guy, have to check him out, sounds awesome!

Freddie Steele was also known for his footwork, and waist-down shots of his footwork can be seen in the 1942 film Gentleman Jim in which he performed as boxing double for star Errol Flynn. Steele went on to appear in a number of Hollywood films as an actor throughout the 1940s, notably as "Bugsy", one of the six Marines central to the plot of the Oscar-nominated Hail the Conquering Hero (1944), directed by Preston Sturges. He also appeared as Sergeant Steve Warnicki in The Story of G.I. Joe, 1945, and in Whiplash and I Walk Alone, both in 1948. He appeared in nearly 30 films, though went uncredited in most.

 

Definitely worth you looking into Holman mate. He's one of the two greatest fighters from the murders row. Charley Burley is generally considered the greatest, which i agree with, but a decent argument could be made for Williams.

 

Freddie Steele was a great boxer/fighter, one of my favorites. Wasn't Billy Conn a middle? Also another favorite, if he wasn't Irish, he would have been Heavyweight Champ...

He racked up the losses later in his career but at his peak he was a monster. I would put him in there with many of your favorite fighters from past

 

It's amazing the competition those days .. in a twelve month period from 42 - 43 Burley fought twelve times and this included Charles twice, Williams three times, Lloyd Marshall, Jack Chase and the Cocoa Kid ... these were terrific fighters ... insane.

 

I never hear anyone mention Benny Briscoe which is crazy. Also crazy to think he never won a title.

Ronnie Harris as well. He was one of the top MWs of the 70's and no one mentions him either. Even I don't mention him much and he was a hometown guy for me (which is the main reason I know him)
