What if Muhammad Ali's opponents came dressed up as he penned them? Some examples being, Sonny Liston comes into the ring in a Bear outfit, George Foreman comes into the ring as a Mummy, loose gauze and all. Patterson as Peter Cottontail, imagine a match scheduled for the day before Easter, Floyd comes in handing cream filled eggs to the audience, especially children.

I’d pay to see Leon “The Vampire” Spinks be transported to the ring in a coffin and then rise in full cape and vampire regalia. Fight would have to be at night, though.

And Leon tells Ali, I Want To Suck Your Blood. Blood, Blood Blood. Ha Ha.

I would laugh if Ernie Terrell had shown up dressed like an Octopus, all his thin tentacles waving at the audience. Or Oscar Bonavena dressed up like Ringo Starr during the heyday of Beatlemania, long floppy hair and drums.

This all sounds like pro boxing went to the pro wrestling managers.

What do you think William? Imagine seeing Japanese wrestler Antonio Inoki who wrestled Ali in an exhibition match between boxer and wrestler on June 25 1976. Inoki dressed like a Pelican as Ali penned him.

Earnie Shavers wearing an acorn hat to the ring would have been a sight.

Chuvalo came into a press conference dressed as a washerwomen. Ali called him a washerwoman, Chuvalo figured it was from a fight where the way he was punching a opponent it looked like he was working a wash board.

It would be funny to see Sir Henry Cooper dressed like a bum that was crippled as Muhammad Ali penned him in both fights on June 18 1963 and on May 21 1966. But Cooper was brave and very competitive in both fights. In the first bout in 1963, Ali was decked by Cooper but got up to win a TKO 5. In May 1966, Henry was given a shot at the title, this time no knockdown but Ali stopped Cooper in round 6 due to cuts.

Ali didn’t give him the nick but if Cleveland Williams entered the ring in Houston dressed and made up like a cast member from the musical Cats…well, that would purrfect, wouldn’t it?

Ali might’ve been so taken aback as to give Williams a chance to land a least one of his big left hooks.

All we needed at that particular time Pug was Julie Newmar, the original Cat Woman when Williams fought Ali in Nov 1966.
