Great categories, although I will add one. Fan of neither and think both are poor replicas of the great fighters of the past.
It was only a let down for Ryan G fanatics. Boxing fanatics got their curiosity satiated last night. great W for Tank. Stayed cool & calm & took advantage of the young pups overzealousness , & ended it with a wicked body shot - twas beautiful boxing on display & Tank is a special idiot Savant… Deal with it!
It was only a disappointing fight if a person was rooting for Ryan to win. If a person was a Davis supporter then it was a great fight.
Talk is cheap and we've seen it time and time again fighters talk a big game leading up to a fight. I'm thinking Macho Camacho vs Cesar Chavez, etc. The old saying is true, everyone has a plan until they get punched. The problem was that Tank made Garcia pay for his mistakes early which made Ryan hesitant. This can happen against good counter punchers. And since Garcia never really had to deal with this before, it was a rude awakening. Combination of inexperience (Garcia) and just different levels of skills, imo.
There's a difference between being entertained by a good performance and a fight being great. I'm a Pac fan who loved Pac vs Hatton, was it a great fight though? Hell no.
I'm not a supporter of either of these guys, thought it was a half decent fight. It appeared Garcia could've at least made an attempt to get up earlier. He hadn't taken a real beating or anything, not enough to stay down like that. Garcia was supposed to be a young, hungry, prime fighter in the biggest fight of his life, not to even mention the enormous amount of media bragging & trash talking. It just seems he didn't give every last ounce of himself in there, he wasn't willing to go down swinging.
There are quite a few factors which have to be mentioned with this fight and I think people being a bit too harsh on Garcia.. Let's have a look.. First off, Garcia needed a keep busy fight before this as the main thing he lacks in his make up is experience. The kid for me still has amazing potential but needs to wise up in the ring and control his emotions.. let's look at it like this if he didn't over commit in that 2nd round and kept his cool he would of been 2 rounds up on Tank. I kept saying before the fight he needs to build a early lead and then force Tank to walk forward and THEN Garcia could of tried to make him walk onto the left hook.. but as I said inexperience instead he walked forward and tried to land the left hook, Tank probs been expecting that and definitely worked on countering the left hook in that situation because he timed that perfect .. Garcia looked rusty in terms of controlling range and using his reach advantage properly as he missed with so many straight punches .. Garcia is stil quite green in the pro ranks ... If Garcia really wants to improve as a boxer he needs to keep busy.. in 2 years or so maybe at 140 he can rematch Davis why not but before Garcia needs some decent wins and show improvements.. I still enjoyed the fight..
This fight was exactly what I expected, really to a T. Normally I see several different scenarios but these guys were on a railroad track to one specific result. Garcia was playing it a little smarter than I expected for a while. But he said it himself, he got bored and tried to raise the action and took the KO shot. Should have done it before this fight. It might have been a big help in his preparation. Oh well, I don't mean to criticize RG for taking a big risk, that was good, now he just needs to follow up with a great comeback.
Was actually a fairly exiting fight, even though Ryan looked awful and made some surprisingly amateurish mistakes for someone with his experience… he still attempted to dog Gervonta a few times (with decent success) including RIGHT before the stoppage. Didn’t think he had much of a shot of winning, but I thought it was a solid bout.
I'm gonna have to roll with what Manny pac said: after all he has the right to talk about that , says he to the fans " Ryan is good, he gave a great fight, he sure has a talent- just needs to work on more skills". I think his point of view is better than mine. I actually predicted tank in 6, but Ryan surprised me by hanging in till the seventh. After all, that is what tank predicted (7) so if the fight was bunk, why not just bet on what Davis said and boycott the fight and make that money if Ryan is a bust
