I see Folley outsmart Ingo in this one. Awkward style, superior timing and precision. Although Ingo certainly has the puncher's chance.
Hmm. I guess many expected Machen to outbox Ingo but Eddie came out more aggressive than usual - then BOOM! Then maybe Ingo was thought to be a one hit wonder but lightning struck twice in the first Patterson fight. I would THINK Folley should be able to outbox Ingo - but for one thing, Zora could run hot and cold. For another. Folley’s performance vs Liston reads as if Zora fought somewhat aggressively - perhaps imprudently so. He had his moments but ultimately Liston lowered the boom. Liston was better than Ingo of course but, at the time that Johansson was on his two fight he rates somewhat of chance (not high) to perhaps catch Folley early and cold. I also think Ingo perhaps benefitted from being underestimated - so if this fight played out during their actual careers in the late 50s, - there’s a possibility that Zora might also err in not having sufficient respect of the Hammer. In a pure best v best hypothetical, I would think Zora should be reasonably favoured - but Ingo did manage to surprise in the real world. Imagine if Ingo had managed the scalps of not just Machen and Patterson but Folley also - that would’ve been quite the boost to his legacy.
It's one of those fights were the man who achieved more, to me at least, could possibly look second best. This is a very winnable fight for me, for Folley, and that's not putting Ingo down.
50-50 but gun to my head, I'll take Ingo. Folley will outbox him for a couple rounds, but just doesn't have the chin to take that right hand imo, and it WILL land at some point.
This … Folley was by no means chopped liver, but at some point Ingo is going to land the Hammer and I don’t think it’s going to be pretty.
