Would you say the harder puncher was the Brown Bomber

    Or The lion?
Or is it not really comparable?
I know both guys are up there in the top 10 (for me at least), for power, but I don't see a lot of difference between em.

    Anyway iyo?

Probably Lewis for the overhand right, right uppercut, and jab. Probably Louis for other punches.

Louis was all about combos though. It wasn't necessarily that he was the hardest hitter of his era with a single punch, it was that he indisputably hit hard and was deadly accurate with rapid-fire combos.

Shot for shot pure power it's Lewis with his overhand right. Louis however, had impeccable timing with his straight right hand which was faster and usually thrown in the midst of a deadly combination. Both were as deadly as it gets.

Lewis for sure, punch for punch. Louis had the faster, more fluid combinations.

Here's 20 minutes straight of Lewis crumbling guys

overall Lewis hits harder but Louis has better accuracy and maybe hits harder in short range. Also I think lewis hits harder than tyson

Lewis of course was a harder puncher with one shot, he was
much bigger, heavier, and taller with better than average skill.
But Louis was a more effective puncher when considering
accuracy, speed, timing , instincts ,technique, great skills,
    AND power.

With one punch, probably Lennox Lewis. For ability to knock people out, probably Joe Louis.

Lennox definitely IMO, especially with the overhand. Jab was harder as well. Think Lennox would have a body if he had the same size gloves as Joe.

I'm going against the consensus opinion here and say that Joe Louis just
might be the harder puncher.I'm a very staunch Lennox Lewis fan and
his right hand did have tremendous power.
However the damage Joe Louis inflicted on his opponents was horrific.
Yes that might be partly due to Joe's overall qualities as a puncher i.e
accuracy, timing etc but the man had to punch damn hard to put so much
    hurt on his opponents.

Joe Louis's straight right I think was sharper than Lennox Lewis's but Lewis's jab was one his best attributes. Louis would throw fast tight left hooks and the younger Lewis could throw wild whipping left hooks. Overall I feel Lewis was more complete but they are still both in my top 5 heavyweight list.

It is impossible to say who hit harder.

However, it would not be unreasonable to provisionally conclude that Lewis hit harder, based on his greater size, and the fact that they were both as good as it gets for their size.

You could do so and still conclude that Louis was the better puncher overall, though both are top five all time finishers IMHO.

I honestly go back and forth ... both were monster punchers ... the funny thing is that Louis has become slightly underrated as a puncher because of his speed and combination punching it becomes common the say so and so hit harder with a single shot but Louis did it with combinations but Louis wrecked guys with single shots too .. I don't know ..
