Very good question. Hard to choose. Would I rather have an iron chin and average stamina or an average chin and great stamina? I think it all depends on your style.

Having a glass jaw or terrible stamina is equally bad imo. They have to be at least average for you to be successful.

That’s what I’m saying you cantaloupe. Do you think when he was on his knee he was thinking “man, I’m glad I have a great chin/stamina”?

And yes, I realize that answer had nothing to do with the op’s question, but his performance against Tank was quite embarrassing and I still want to talk about it, lol.

    Stamina is fundamental

Muhammad Ali The Greatest was great because of his chin in my opinion.

Then again Lennox Lewis and Wlad Klitschko were known to have a bad chin. In a very real sense their chins are not that bad I promise you. If they walk into the average boxing club their chins are granite I am sure. Just not at the World Heavyweight level.

Then again I think it’s impossible to be a pro fighter at the top ranks without good stamina.

While a fighter must have both good, the chin isn't something you can improve much, just a little. Many fighters with great stamina suffered just because of a weak chin, while you can see fighters doing good just because they're very hard to impossible to hurt. And it is still relative to answer, because it depends on other qualities the athlete has, also his style. When you've both at supreme level, you got Rocky Marciano.

Not that I'm answering the question with this, just a comment. Tony Harrison and Sergey Kovalev would be unbeatable with that combo.

They are kind of related. Guys with great stamina often have great chins too, and if they don't they recover very quickly from being knocked down. Great stamina implies a high workrate and that is generally more useful than being able to take a shellacking. That said, there have been guys that won on their chins. Chuvalo is one dude, and Brewster and Puritty vs Wlad are two others.

Great stamina, you can learn to protect your chin sufficiently enough that the big one don't land. With great stamina you can push and push someone over the hill.........you can outlast them, you can up your out put to drown them.

Great stamina is a game changer

Ideally you need both, especially if you're planning on not avoiding Brit fighters. But if you can't take a pop on the whiskers I won't even talk to you. I'll treat you like worthless subhuman freak you are and deserve to be treated like.

A good chin is connected with good stamina - if you have good stamina you have more chance to survive hard shots than those with poor stamina. That means you need to be conditioned well and you will have a better "chin". It is not just the density of the bones that makes a good "chin". Also, for lower weight categories, the fighter needs to be well-rehydrated after weigh-in. A "chin" also can deteriorate through years of hard sparring and fights, so the right amount of hard fights, technical sparring, and rest is the key to "chin" longevity. And maybe the most important factor for a good "chin" is a defense or maybe better call it awareness. If you see shots coming you could lessen their impact with slight movements of your head/body even if it lands directly. If you don't see it coming, no Superman chin can save you. Strong neck muscles could also help to minimize the impact as they resist head snapping.

I read 'what will take a boxer's father' and immediately though about Salidchenko.

I'd rather have above-average both than great one and poor the other.

Stamina can be improved with roadwork and healthy diet. There’s nothing that can be done to improve a weak chin.

That isn't strictly true - in fact healthy diet can have a positive impact on both attributes, to different extents. There are neck & jaw strengthening exercises as well, that along with proper rest & hydration can all potentially improve punch resistance - but admittedly the margins of return on any of those band-aid solutions for chin are much smaller than what regular cardiovascular training and long sparring can do for in-ring endurance.

And if you're starting out with a baseline flat-out annealed glass chin, then yeah, best you could hope to raise it to would be "slightly less glassy".

No point having great stamina if your chin doesn't allow you to get out of the first 3 rounds.

But conversely no point being Oliver McCall if you're blowing after 3 rounds.
