Help finding a boxing book!

Have a look at A Pictorial History of Boxing.

 

Is that the one by Harry Carpenter which I grew up on?

 

Good chance we’ll turn up fight footage of Harry Greb before we find this dang book.

 

I'm a quarter of a way in and its pretty damn interesting so far.

We'll be searching for this book as long as Joe Louis reigned..

 

I think we might need a few more clues or we could be looking at a duration as long as all of boxing history.

I feel Blofeld’s pain - you remember something but you can’t quite recall the key details.

Like the day after a big night out on the turps - that intuitive, ominous feeling you have the next day before the finer details of the previous nights escapades eventually flood into your memory. Arrrgghhh! Lol.

Thus far we have book (no bell or candle) boxing, Brits, up to 80s with a good dose of bare knuckle info.

The collective conscience here should be able to sort this out.

I don’t know if you live in the UK? If you do there is an annual boxing fayre at Dick Collins hall every October in London. There are always numerous sellers with boxing books there. The boxing Board Of Control used to do an annual book with an a-z of current fighters.

It turns out the book was in fact The Champ by Richard Woodley. Although I don't recall the bits about Palmer and Bowker myself but it's been a while...they definitely didn't include Jon Voight's love of old time British fighters in the film.

 

Ha ha thanks mate. That must have a been a while ago- I only returned last week after a near 10-year hiatus (although i'm enjoying this posts-to-like ratio thing being so low- well deserved really considering most of the crap I talk).

 

Ah, it was right under our noses all this time. I think our buddy @Blofeld mentioned a finders fee and a generous one at that. Time for you to collect.

I came so very close with Let’s Go Champ: Boxing’s Rich History A-Z by Shannon Briggs.

But the OP didn’t mention it being a pop up book so I had to eliminate Shannon’s much celebrated literary offering, which is recommended for ages 0-99.
