I completely missed that in the instructions? I’ll delete my previous post. At this stage, I don’t think anyone on here would have any idea which fighters I rate or don’t rate…will sit it out and chime in as appropriate. Was this what you were shooting for with the Larry Holmes post?
Fighters I think are overrated Kenny Norton - He beat Muhammad Ali and probably should have been awarded a decision in one of their other matchups. He gave the great Larry Holmes a heck of a battle and he beat Jimmy Young. George Foreman - His plusses are obvious, he was a dominating, intimidating, fearsome champion. He destroyed Joe Frazier twice and made Kenny Norton look like a child. After a long layoff he stunningly won the lineal heavyweight championship at the age of 45. How can he possibly be overrated?
Great points, but I think you just made the same mistake as me…Janitor is saying that we’re not meant to pick the fighters ourselves.

Aha…so I got number 1 correct, I’d just applied the same concept to number 2, got it now. I’m not going to repost the criticisms of fighters I like again though, I can’t be bothered now lol.
Okay- I’ll defend Ali. Who else is ranked so highly and accomplished so much with so little fundamental boxing? Who else in boxing period was so talented they just about taught themselves how to fight? Has anyone had a bigger heart? Has anyone at HW cleaned the house so throughly taking the path of most resistance with there style?
Ill start it off.. and I wont call anyone out since I'm not sure if they want to participate in the thread. JCC with out a doubt lost against Taylor and if it wasn't for Richard Steele He would have lost on the cards! Taylor easily ranks above Chavez!
Rated highly….Lennox Lewis’ biggest win is Evander Holyfield…a 35 year old cruiserweight …he was knocked out by 2 gatekeepers….and I can’t believe that people try to argue that he had a good chin
Rated highly…Larry Holmes’ competition wasn’t better than Mike Tyson’s ….in fact Larry Holmes never beat a fighter that I don’t think Mike Tyson could be …He should have fought Pinklon Thomas …he never unified the division…and he was the first heavyweight champion to lose to a light heavyweight
I’ll defend Joe Calzaghe…I picked jeff Lacy to beat him ( I was wrong ) …he dominated Mikkel Kessler at 35 ….he was a very good fighter …and if you have him your top 100 …I want argue with you
I loved Joe Louis and it would be pretty hard to toss dirt on him, the only hicup is the first Schmeling fight. Yeah guys like Conn gave Louis a run for his money, but a win is a win right? He destroy his era, not much you can ask for.
I rate Marvin Hagler very highly indeed. He’s the Don. My favourite non HW, a master of his craft. A lock in for Top 3 all time MWs without a doubt. So this is gonna hurt me, but……. C’mon, the guy never impressed against his fellow greats. He laboured to an unimpressive win against the blown up LW Duran…a man was brutalised by Hearns. A true great would have stamped his authority on that fight from Round one and made Duran regret ever moving up to fight the bigger boys. Instead, Duran was leading right up to the last two rounds! WTF was that all about?? It looked to me as though MMH was a little gunshy…didn’t want to mix it with Duran. Not a good look at all for one of the so called greatest Middleweights ever to walk the earth, and the judges definitely weren’t impressed either. That showed a flaw in his mindset. He was then given a boxing lesson by SRL, mainly due to his slow start, yes. But why would a so called ATG throw away points like that. What on earth was he doing…did he freeze or what? Whatever the reason, he basically threw that fight away with that foolish tactic. It shows a level of naïveté that an ATG boxer should not have. And don’t let that victory over Hearns fool you. He was cut to pieces by Tommy and was close to being stopped, but it was Hearns who lost it rather than Hagler winning it. Tommy’s fitness was questionable from the 2nd round…his legs had gone. That was more about Tommy’s conditioning than Hagler’s power. The Hitman must’ve been neglecting his roadwork. Lucky, lucky Hagler!
