Harold Johnson fancied himself to outbox Liston. If anybody, maybe him.

The great one s come to mind Ezz Charles, RJJ, Spinks. Maybe Jones could beat or at least give young George an hard fight
But saying that, Roy s chin verse Foreman punch...?

Does the lightheavy have to weigh in at 175 for the fight? And if so, is it same day weigh ins?

What ever gives the smaller guy an advantage imo.
Especially if your fighting two guys like sonny and Foreman that are trying to drill you in to the ground.
    Any fighters in mind, CT?

Drain Marciano or Dempsey to 175, and then rehydrate. Some people give them a chance against Liston. Michael Spinks or Tunney as heavies might also beat Liston. Though I personally would like Spinks's chances more than Tunney's.

Foreman is a different animal, though.

Yep that's definitely giving em a chance at least.
Spinks could perhaps does his jerky akward style against Liston but even then I fear for his health.

And yes, Big George in prime is scary..

Correct. Foreman was less powerful according to common opponents, not nearly as good a boxer, lacked Liston's endurance, and didn't have half of his adaptability. Excellent observation.

There was a time during Ezzard Charles incredible winning streak from 1944-1950 where he MIGHT have turned the trick against those guys. Not something I’d necessarily favor him to do but it seems to me like he may have had the best chance. He did after all beat a lot of good punchers during that run.

In prime yes. But before prime he struggled with Peralta and tired badly, which I think gave Ali inspiration. And Peralta spent most of his years at light heavy. The other boxer to beat him was young, only a small heavy. The big guys didn't bother him as much.

I could see someone like Michael Spinks being a very tricky opponent for George Foreman, if he isn't intimidated of course. As Tyson's aura did seem to get into Spinks's head.

No light heavyweight is beating them.

Foreman trading with Lyle like they were playing hanky-panky shuts out any possibility for a light heavyweight to manage a victory against him or Liston since he was strong enough to push Foreman back in sparring. The only hope would be to try a points victory, but that is largely impractical because at some point Foreman or Liston will eventually manage to land a flush hit.

The only question then is will the LHW have noodle legs or will they be out cold like Moorer?
