I read that there were talks of them fighting in 1951 or 52. How could this fight have turned out? If it were at light heavyweight and Walcott had to get down to 175, I think Moore would beat him. But at heavyweight, I'm not so sure. Thoughts?

Would have been a classic that could've swayed either way.

Walcott having to lose the best part of twenty pounds to make light heavy, in my opinion that would result in one outcome, a win by The Mongoose.

I favour Walcott at Heavyweight, but it not a foregone conclusion, 2 crafty pugilists exhibiting their craft.

What do you think happens at heavyweight?

At Heavyweight I've got Jersey Joe getting a decision, would be a good scrap.

Moore may deck Walcott with a sneaky right hand but after that Walcott keeps his distance for a close decision win. He was faster on his feet and would probably be advised to use more movement. Can’t see a stoppage. Not at heavyweight.

Heavyweight is probably the only realistic division that this fight could have happened in. I’m which case I might make Walcott the slight favorite. But in truth this would have been close

Kinda depends on which JJW turns up.
The one who had 3 split decisions with Joey Maxim (all at heavyweight) would have his work cut out against Archie.

Interesting matchup … if they were both on, potentially a classic.

Joe was remarkably inconsistent. I mean he had his late run to win the title but I’m not sure you can point to any period and say ‘that’s Walcott in his prime’ — there are fights here and there but no real stretch that stands out like with most fighters where you can say ‘that’s the top of his game.’

That being said, I think it’s dead-even in trying to pick. Archie was far more consistent and had a helluva record against good heavyweights. If we get the very best Walcott he probably wins a close decision but anything below his best I like Archie on points.

I’d damned sure like to see what those two cagey craftsmen would do in their constant game of chess over 10 or especially 15 rounds. Seems like a fight I’d watch 100 times.

Great match up that oozes with class and finesse. Both very cute defensively as well as a hard puncher where either guy can stop the other with a sneaky shot. 50-50 fight.
