What greats? Joe Louis? The Rock? Dempsey? lol Only greats I'd have given Usyk a hard time to deal with are Ali, Lennox, prime Wlad, prime Tyson, and maybe Frazier for stylistic reasons. Everyone else gets the treatment. Also I don't think too many people call Usyk a defensive wizard on par with the likes of Chris Byrd or Jimmy Young etc. We know he gets hit, and he has the kind of pasty skin that marks up really easily, which is why he looks like panda eyes after even moderately easy fights. But he must be doing something right as he's never been knocked down as a pro or looked on the verge of being stopped. All round ignorant and spiteful sounding post from David Benavidez.
Look I like Lomachenko but I'm sorry he clearly lost to Lopez end of. You can use any statistics or criteria you like to make a case for Lomachenko. But in the end Lomachenko didn't throw any punches in the first 6 rounds, and gave the fight away based on that. And if there was any doubt in the fight well Lopez decisively won the 12th round to win a clear decision. Salido and Haney you have a case they were controversial fights for different reasons, but the Lopez fight ? Not at all Lomachenko clearly lost.
Yes he did and any unbiased fan watching the fight would agree, Lomachenko did nothing in the first 6 rounds and clearly lost a dominant round 12 for Lopez. It was a clear 7-5 or 8-4 win for Lopez, there is no argument for Lomachenko winning the fight.
I'm a big Lomachenko fan but he did nothing in the first 6 rounds & gave them away Lopez won fair & Square Loma was robbed against Haney
This point of view I have no problems with! One can say Lopez squeaked in the nod against Loma. That’s reasonable. But the usual suspects trying to say haney earned a WIN against Loma… Hell No. even saying that fight should’ve been a DRAW… Nah. Sorry. The Lopez win was arguably warranted. What wasn’t warranted was Lopez’s cowardly ducking of the rematch because he didn’t like what he tasted in the last 5 rounds. There is no excuse for that. Kind of reminded me of Fury ducking the Wlad rematch. But at least Fury at least tried to justify it “Oooops!! Yeah sorry mate! Got caught up in the whole boozing and Coke stuff that goes hand in hand with you know… mental health! I know you had the titles for 10 years, But I beat ya so… deal with it!” LAME Should’ve at least offered Wlad a shot after he took care of Wilder. Better late than never.
Don’t think either of them are overrated. If anything Lomachenko has become underrated since his contested losses to Lopez and Haney. Usyk is especially not overrated. It’s not like he’s been taking easy fights to protect his 0. Usyk is a road warrior who like Lomachenko, is willing to compete against bigger men and as of yet he’s not taken an L.
Overrated? Compared to what? And who's rating? And what era? For FFS, give it a rest. Get in the ring for 6 let alone12, or the days of 15, and then give it a think. Every parasite sanctioning board spills this shite monthly while they invent belts for fees and brain washing for $$$. The whole game along with the rest of pro sports has changed ten fold since the invention of video and real time analysis of technique of an opponent for a start. Add in nutrition and all of it. Ali vs Fury... or Lennox, or Tyson?. Or one of the trick pony then, or now. Ali then and now on the same playing field. While Tyson or Lewis may have got a win and a rematch and maybe Wilder if he caught him. Usyk is clutch, but in the day of Ali? Put Loma, or Canelo, in with those greats then? Canelo wouldn't have been anything of what he is today without the same roids and the pass by the sanctions boards all the same. All quite possible. Loma would have made his mark. There's your rating(s). Larry Holmes gets no cred these days because he was a carried fighter and EVERYONE knew it then. Fans knew what they saw. Today he would be all that prattled on about. There's the state of affairs. While even today Frazier is finally getting the badge of greatness he deserves. Its still about Guts, heart, and brains if you have never seen the rope a dope... Social media brings all this noise into "play' which is cool, but really, because the only one who doesn't get hit in any real sense of the word today is Bivol. And when the competition steps up he surely will. So if the bar is defense then Bivol is your benchmark while the rest is only as good as the eyes that see it. If the bar is greatest, all time, p4p? Its a short list my friends.
