Ruiz has way better wins than Usyk

 

Gassiev ? Bellew ? Briedis ?

 

To be fair, Ruiz also has many worse losses that Usyk, who has exactly zero losses. When Usyk's career is done then this becomes a discussion.

 

Holyfield was past his best by that time.

 

You have to take losses into account as well. If not guys like Rahman, Sanders, McCall and Douglas would have better resumes than some atg's.

But I do agree Usyk at heavyweight is mighty thin

 

Usyk has an amateur world championship and Olympic Gold. Something huggy bear couldn’t come close to. Also Usyk UNIFIED two divisions. Ruiz held one strap, The WBA hostage for years with God Awful fights before getting thoroughly outboxed by Valuev. Don’t mention Ruiz in the same sentence as Usyk again.

Also, I really don’t see this happening to Usyk ever in his career…

We are going to see these kinds of threads until the end of time, and it is always going to come down to the fact that Usyk fought in an era when "cruiserweights" had a 200 pound limit and rehydration clauses, meaning that a lot of them walk in the ring on fight night at 220 pounds. So...

1) It is a completely intellectually viable position to say that Usyk has a thin heavyweight resume...but that makes him pound per pound great in a way that most heavyweight champs could never be, and with the caveat that he beat one of the best super heavies ever twice.

Or...

2) You can just accept that Briedis, Gassiev, Bellew, Huck and Hunter were essentially heavies when he fought them. Glowacki and Mchunu are pretty small but quality guys.

Either way, he is a great fighter and would have won every round against the Puerto Rican man fondler.

 

Ruiz spent his entire career at heavyweight.
Usyk has had only 4 fights at the weight.

Kinda dumb to compare them. Also, it´s really unfortunate that due to recent events Usyk has had to take a lot of time off between fights.

 

Why can´t wins stand out on their own? Why do losses always have to be dragged into the equation?

Valid. But we assume Usyk was a heavyweight for the very same reason - "a lot of them (cruisers) walk in the ring on fight night at 220 pounds".

The thread is silly itself. Usyk will probably retire with overall 5 heavy opponents, so he will never be comparable to any heavyweight. His name is on the cruiser records, that is good enough.

 

Bearded warrior was one of the greats. 60 years from now he will beat every current boxer in fantasy match ups

I went and had a look at Usyk's boxrec and was surprised to find that he's actually a career cruiser.
This finally explains why he wasn't fighting HW's all these years.
I used to tell people what a shameless ducker this guy was, fighting cruisers all the time while ducking heavies.
I feel really stupid now.
