Matter of fact who would win between usyk and Tyson?

You are right Mike b, This question has never been asked, but a prime Mike Tyson would be all over Usyk like white on rice, Usyk would have nowhere to go but down. Mike would not let Usyk box him like some of these more modern guys have, truthfully it would be very one sided.

 

I think it's an intriguing matchup. Usyk's movement in the first AJ fight was beautiful; 12 rounds of consistent head movement and footwork movement, never staying in one spot. That was a masterclass to the fullest extent.

However, AJ isn't Tyson. Nobody Usyk has faced is like Tyson. Could Usyk handle Tyson's erratic movement? I don't think so.

 

Gonna lean towards Tyson here. I really like Usyk in most matches but not sure this is the best one for him

 

it would be like a modern version of Frazier vs Foster, Tyson would dominate fairly easily, and Usyk doesn't really have enough power to phase Tyson, Douglas and Holyfield were both bigger punchers than Usyk and they really had to work for it

 

Tyson has an advantage in head movement. Some mentioned Usyk head movement, but I think that Usyk is more of a master of angles than head movement. Usyk doesn't have a head movement like this:

Footwork is a draw, or there is a slight advantage on Tyson's side. Destructiveness and explosiveness is on Mike Tyson's side. So all in all, Tyson is the favorite in this "dream fight". Usyk's chance is to frustrate Tyson, and disrupt his spirituality.

 

Usyk had problems vs Chisora's pressure, theres no way hes going to deal with a juggernaut like Tyson coming at him.

Simply Usyk doesn't hit hard enough to keep Tyson off him, he also doesn't have the physicality to clinch Tyson to halt his offense either.

Prime Mike Tyson is totally wrong for Usyk. It wouldn't be a chess match, it will be a demolition derby. In order to dissuade Tyson from blitzing, considerable punching power and an innate ability to create distance are necessary. Slipping Tyson's punches is an arduous and risky task, especially considering the angles and hand speed of Tyson. Prime Tyson was invincible, only Prime Ali and Prime Lewis could have defeated him. Tyson lost his edge after leaving Rooney for Don King and his slide into mediocrity began.

 

The speed and movement of Tyson, as well as his power are something that Usyk will struggle with, despite his speed and technique. Add the body punches Tyson lands and the poor resistance of Usyk against such, I just see him knocked out in the first half of the fight.

 

Yeah that's a big factor the body punches, Tyson was a very good body puncher especially his right hook to the body and left uppercut to the chin. Usyk looked bothered when Joshua briefly went to the body, and as you rightly said Usyk has shown weaknesses in the bread basket in prior fights.

 

Usyk is an amazing fighter but I think the prime Tyson with his speed would be too much ... I just feel he;'d have caught him ..

 

Usyk foot work looks great because he's fighting big slow fighters.
The opponents he's faced couldn't spell "Cut off the ring, make it smaller".
They didn't have the athleticism or skill level, or both.
Tyson could do everything Usyk's opponents couldn't.

Tyson had the foot speed and quickness to consistently
keep his lead foot on the outside of Usyk, force him to go
in a direction he's shown he's uncomfortable with.
Tyson in his prime had the ability to out jab taller
opponents, using his exceptional timing and quickness
to out jab much taller opponents with much longer reach.
Usyk does a lot of pushing with his jab instead of popping
especially in the later rds when he's tired. That would
prove disastrous against a fighter with the ability
to counter effectively the way Tyson could.
Most of Usyk's opponents and all at heavyweight were
below average countering. More "You punch I block"
"I punch you block " That's so prevalent in today's
boxing.
Tyson had the ability to land 3-4 hard ,accurate
punches in the gaps of Usyk's offensive attack.
Tyson wouldn't just block and wait for him ,
to stop punching.
My opinion, if Usyk got by 8rds with prime Mike
Tyson, it would only be because Tyson wasn't
pushing., preferring
to take his time and torture him for a bit,
like he did with Tyrell Biggs .
Other than that, Tyson ko's Usyk with in
5-6 rds at the most.

 

Numerous lesser opponents went the distance. This seems like another example of old time nostalgia.

And how are Tysons opponents more skilled than Usyks cruiserweight opponents like Hunter and Breidis who would be heavyweights in Tysons day.

 

In his championship reign only the very durable Tony Tucker who's 6'5 who also went distance with Lewis went the distance, and Bonecrusher Smith who held on like an octopus and made no effort to win went the distance.

I wouldn't say "numerous opponents" you can count on one hand who went the distance with a prime Tyson. And most of them fought very defensive fights without really taking big risks to win.

 

Or it could be a case of "modern superiority", from your perspective.
If you consider Hunter or Breidis as very skilled that's your opinion.
Mine is I've seen many better cruiserweights , and they look good
because of the lack of top level skills in today's game. Same
with Usyk. I've seen many better fighters in the cruiserweight
and especially the heavyweight division then what's around
today.
