Every fight should be open scoring

It really makes no sense in every other sport you know how you are doing because there is an active score. The scorecards between every round should be known by the fighter.

Loma was cruising to victory in his mind and most of the fans, yet he needed that 12th round to just make it a draw. If he knew, he wouldn't have taken that round off and would have went for the KO which he had Haney out on his feet in the previous round.

This is just another aspect of boxing corruption. Let the fighters know how they are doing, it will change the dynamic of close fights.

Nah, the crowd's reactions to the scores would influence the judges. Especially if the crowd is obviously in support of one of the two fighters.

Not happening. How can they rig fights if there's open scoring? Boxing is a busines. You'll still watch even if your favorite fighter gets robbed.

That's actually a good point. Maybe open scoring just so the teams know?

No, there shouldn't be open scoring. There should be honest scoring on behalf of the judges. Open scoring can cause a fighter to fight differently.

Like if a guy knows he's up 7-2, he can run the rest of the fight and stink up the joint. That's bad for fans.

I have mixed feelings about any kind of open scoring, but something they could do is just give a single update at the halfway point. That way the feedback to the judges isn't so direct.

One advantage boxing has is that, like baseball, it has a vast ocean of low level professional events overseen by the same organizations that do the marquee fights.

Baseball has been using these low level leagues to experiment with different tweaks to the game to try to improve the sport and increase its popularity. They've struck on a few very good ideas (and some less good ones). Boxing needs to do the same.

Try some different types of open scoring in small hall fights, then graduate to some 8 rounders or a regional title fight. If it works, keep moving it up the ranks. If it doesn't, try something else.

Do not like this idea, i love waiting in anticipation of the result.Especially in a really close fight

I agree. At least the fighters should know the score. Maybe with 1 or 2 rounds of delay if not possible immediatly. But I think that fighters should be allowed to make adjustments in their strategies based on facts and not based on guessing.

Maybe the crowd could influence the judges? if that's a problem then let the corners know the cards and not the crowd. But anyway, the referees are there in the ring receiving the pressure from the crowd and they have to deal with it and they do it, I dont see why judges cant do the same.

They still could give fighter A every early round and put fighter B in the hole early on needing a ko to win.

Didn't one of the orgs do this about 10 years ago? I hated it because it disturbs the natural momentum of a fight.

If it's before the 10th round in what the fighters thought was a competitive bout, but the scoring is 7-2, then the guy who's winning stops taking risks and the guy who's behind says **** it and gives up.

I’m in favor of open scoring. But it doesn’t have to be every round. Every 3 rds is how it’s done in some places iirc.

Speaking of Inoue, all WBC fights in japan have open scoring apparently.
