The 1934 title game was played on a frozen field thanks to a rain the night before. The Chicago Bears were beating the New York Giants at halftime by the score of 10-3. At the suggestion of one of his players, Giants head coach Steve Owen sent a minion to find sneakers wherever he could. His minion got them from the basketball team at Manhattan University and arrived back sometime during the third quarter. The Giants changed shoes, had much better footing and dominated the 4th quarter scoring 27 unanswered points. The final score was 30-13 and both teams agreed it was the sneakers which made the difference and turned a Giants loss into a victory.
