It's certainly not going over my head. You are making the dubious argument that a belt is worth more than the caliber of opponent. Canelo/Jack will bomb on PPV because nobody wants to see it. There's very little legacy to be gained against a weak opponent, belt or no belt.

By contrast, Canelo/Benavidez should do good box office and is a test for Canelo to stave off a young lion - not unlike when Mayweather fought him! And no, Canelo did not become overrated overnight because Floyd beat him easily. It depends what Benavidez would do after that, but we *know* he's a much more formidable opponent than Jack. Hopefully it's just talk.

Yes, PPV buys tend to reflect the magnitude of the fight. Not perfectly, but it's certainly an indicator and especially for a very well known fighter.

You are placing too much emphasis on the belts. Remember, both the number of belts and divisions have proliferated since the earlier days in the sport. Adrien Broner has won belts in multiple classes - do you care? It's the opponent that matters, not the belts.
