Australian Boxing/SM Memorial thread

To be fair our domestic scene is popping again. Plenty of fighters on the scene and growing. Not enough news coming out to talk about though.

We need a Ray Wheatley successor to rise up and report from the gyms.

 

Back by popular demand & with potential being a key criterion, here's how it's looking:

1. Timmy Tool Train 23-0 (17) - What's his name? Tool Train! The Train of Pain will Reign at Junior Middle. Interim WBO champ.
2. Jai Opetaia 22-0 (17) - Finished last year as a clear #1 but hasn't been sighted off Nobbys since. IBF & The Ring Cruiser champ.
3. George Kambosos Jr 20-2 (10) - Lightweight is the best division in the sport & George went Undisputed. Has only lost to the current Undisputed.
4. Jason Moloney 25-2 (19) - WBO Bantamweight champ.
5. Stevie Spark (ola) 16-3 (14) - Robbed by Mexican bandits last start but has ascended to be one of the top professionals in the country. Give the man a world title shot. Two clear wins against home-town Harry's should have him at the top of the world rankings.

6. Justis Huni 7-0 (4) - Hell of a talent but needs to build a platform here before hitting the road, imo. He was doing that when Foxtel pulled the rug out.
7. Michael Zerafa 31-4 (19) - Could have beaten the Brazilian for the IBF title out here. Instead, some German is getting the chance to knock him off.
8. Andrew Moloney 25-3 (16) - Former WBA Jr Bantamweight champ. Gritty effort last start in defeat. Young blokes closing in on world title shots should watch his last fight & Jai Opetaia's to see the mental application that's required to be competitive at the top level.
9. Sam Goodman 15-0 (7) - Won an eliminator for a shot at a Super Bantam world title.
10. Liam Paro 23-0 (14) - In line for a shot at a Junior Welter strap.

11. Liam Wilson 11-2 (7) - Made a splash when given a world title shot. Paul Fleming is the opponent I'd like to see him in with next. It can't be that hard to make the fight.
12. Nikita Tszyu 6-0 (5) - Being brought along slowly but the potential is there. Physically strong, heavy puncher. Being a southpaw won't hurt him either.
13. Vegas Larfield 9-0 (7) - His last couple have been 6-rounders but the opposition has been good. Got hit too much last start but looks a likely type.
14. Dana Coolwell 10-2 (7) - Two tough losses that could have gone the other way appear to have advanced him significantly rather than set him back.
15. Aussie Dave Nyika 6-0 (5) - An Olympic medalist with size, strength, speed, skills & punching power. If that isn't potential, I don't know what is.

16. Cesar Mateo Tapia 15-0 (9) - Good fighter, but yet to make an appearance this year. Needs to beat Rohan Murdock to be considered #1 in this country at Super Middle.
17. Conor Wallace 10-1 (7) - Some good young Light Heavies out there in Paulo Aokuso, Clay Waterman & the Kiwi Jerome Pampellone. Not sure any of them are better than this bloke. Has reversed his only defeat so maybe some of those other blokes might see fit to take him on?
18. Alex Winwood 3-0 (2) - Top 15 in the world at Minimumweight after 3 fights. Might have the division unified after another three.
19. Callum Peters - 20yo amateur Middleweight. Commonwealth games silver medalist & best performed of our men at the recent IBA World Championships. Dropped a razor thin split decision for a medal. Unfortunately no Middleweight division in Paris but we should send him anyway.
20. Teremoana Jr 4-0 (4) - Stopped by Jalolov at the IBA championships but the potential is there. Hope we take him to the Olympics b/c he needs that experience to become what he's capable of being. We also need a Plan B in the H/W division if Justis Huni doesn't take flight.

 

We had one in @juppity. I think he's been poached by one of the paying platforms that doesn't attract the readership that we do. @ipswich express has some good info & insights into what's going on so keep an eye out for his updates.

 

Why did the Australian Forum get removed ? The British Forum is in a terrible state right now and could end up receiving the same fate.

An interesting bit of random information - while looking at the WBC rankings yesterday, they had Stevie Spark(ola) well ahead of that Mexican he clearly beat in Mexico but wasn't given the decision against. The date of the rankings was this month so that fight was likely taken into account. Good to see the WBC ratings committee not go along with what was clearly a bogus decision. The fact that the WBC President was present when the fight occurred may have helped. Onwards & upwards, Stevie.

 

Hopefully, we'll see Stevie fighting again soon...and in Australia

 

I think Matchroom are doing another show in Australia in September (maybe October) headlined by Stevie Spark and featuring Skye Nicholson and Justis Huni.

Garth Wood is in jail for kicking and punching his partners ex 15 x in a attack at a kids soccer game. The ex is in hospital. He has been refused bail.
