Can someone explain it to me ? I remember few years ago people were calling Wilder a joke.

Now all of a sudden his reputation and H2H has skyrocketed for losing against Tyson Fury ?

I admit Wilder was maybe bit better than I first thought, but there seems to be some people erasing all of Wilders struggles earlier in his career to mediocre opposition. And he has yet to really beat a top Heavyweight unless you count an ancient Ortiz where he looked very beatable.

Yes Wilder has a terrific right hand but his skill set is still very limited, and he showed a lack of real finishing qualities against an elite opponent in Fury two times. So surely Wilder shouldn't be rated this high ? Or am I the one who's totally bonkers that is missing the big picture ?

Well that's not what I've seen on multiple posts.

A recent post and I quote said "Wilder probably would never have had a close fight in any era if Fury didn't come along"

fair enough, one guy said a really dumb thing. being nice to him lets say he was trolling.

I've been a big fan since the liakovich fight. wilder is very flawed, that's one of the reasons his fights are so exciting. fury was a step too far and he almost won the first so emphatically that the next 2 would not have happened. fury is also very flawed. the list of people i'd pick over wilder is double figures easily.

There's always going to be that sort of crowd for any fighter, the same ones who believe Mike Tyson doesn't struggle with any heavyweight ever, prime Ali didn't get hit once, Fury doesn't struggle with any heavyweight ever, etc etc etc..

Wilder gets his dues from his heart and determination in his fights with Fury (specifically the trilogy).

That's a perfectly reasonable way of seeing it, honestly I think its bit of both. I think people overrated Fury a bit and may of underestimated Wilder a bit aswell.

I still don't rate Wilder very highly though amongst the best Heavyweights H2H. But he does have a punchers chance against Heavyweights a bit below the very top guys.

I keep seeing modernists use Wilder as an example all the time. 'OOOOOOOH BOXING'S EVOLVED BRO, WILDER WOULDA KILLED HIM!' like bro Wilder is the worst example of boxing evolution on the planet lmao, even Jeffries has better fundamentals than him

He might have ATG power but he has nothing to offer outside of that

Outlandish posts like these on both sides of the spectrum are the reason we'll never get anywhere in debates regarding the evolution of boxing.

Who has he stopped in nearly 50 fights with a solid chin? Nobody. He had nearly an hour and a half with Tyson and couldn't get the job done. He did no better than Cunningham or McDermott, who both dropped him.
