This thread is NOT about trilogies that were important for historical reasons but rather just pure action. Here’s a few good examples: Harding vs Andries Ghatti vs Ward Pazienza vs Haugen.
Paul Banke vs Daniel Zaragoza one of the most underrated trilogies in which every fight was a barnburner. Mike Alvarado vs Brandon Rios was pretty good.
#1 Excitement #2 Historical importance #3 Baddest man on the planet. Ali vs Frazier. #1 Excitement: All 3 of the fights are are great fights with # 1 and 3 among the greatest fights in history. #2 : Historical Importance Ali vs Frazier #1 FOTC was seen as the ultimate in good vs evil, the rebel vs the status quo, Black vs white, Christian vs Muslim, the Civil rights movement, vs the extreme right, The war in Vietnam vs the anti war movement, Historically, probably the 2nd most important fight in the history of the sport, right behind Louis vs Schmeling #2. #3 baddest man on the planet. For years The Heavyweight boxing champion was seen as the baddest man on the planet. Though there was better more exciting fights at the lower weights none, not one carried the weight of the Heavyweight Champion of the world. Only the heavyweight champion was seen as the baddest man on the planet during that era. Ali vs Frazier in my opinion is the greatest trilogy in the history of the sport when everything is factored in. Not just two men punching each other in the face .
Morales vs Barrera 1 is probably my favourite fight. 2 was not a great fight but the third was very good. Overall it’s probably my favourite trilogy.
Best HW trilogies: 1. Ali Vs. Frazier 2. Holyfield Vs. Bowe 3. Fury Vs. Wilder 4. Patterson Vs. Johammson (The best heavyweight - Liston - did not participate, which was not the case in the previous 3 fights) 5. Holyfield Vs. Ruiz
Besides those mentioned: Israel Vazquez vs Oscar Larios James Toney vs Mike McCallum Roman González vs Juan Francisco Estrada Gilberto Roman vs Santos Laciar Manny Pacquiao vs Erik Morales
Gatti-Ward Ali-Frazier Barrera-Morales Bowe-Holyfield Griffith-Paret Fury-Wilder Patterson-Ingo And not that this one counts but they did have 3 fights (once as old men): Fenech-Nelson
Great post mate. Maybe it’s because the first and 3rd are so great, both would be in my top 10 heavyweight fights of all time, that I lose sight of the 2nd actually being pretty good too.
