Has anyone ever had a career quite like this heavyweight? He was a professional bodybuilder for like 9 years and then took up boxing, turning pro in his late 20s. He got KO’d by Butterbean in his second fight but took on all comers, losing to some notables (by DQ to Buster Douglas after knocking Buster out with a shot after the bell) and also beating a few guys with resumes like Shane Sutcliffe, Michael Dokes, Kevin McBride and Peter McNeeley. Monaco had some pop and also proved pretty durable, going the distance in losses to Trevor Berbick, Lawrence Clay Bey, Monte Barrett, Fres Oquendo and more.

I remember his loss to Butterbean. At the time I figured that he was an out of work pro wrestler. It suprised me to learn that he kept on boxing because I expected to see him wearing a mask on a WCW undercard. But he persevered, improved and had a respectable career. You have to give him credit and respect.

I think he was supposed to fight relatively recently on the same card Eddie Chambers was on earlier this year. Haha, forgot to mention the nickname. He deserved points just for that! Monaco was a true strongman — pro bodybuilder. He learned boxing the hard way, fighting anyone they’d pay him to get in the ring with … and a few messed around and found out. Dude could punch.
I still think he did not deserve that DQ vs. Buster. Buster definitely milked that **** for all it was worth smh......
