The two biggest punchers of the 70s square up. Neither was a defensive whiz so they won't have to go looking for the other. Who survives this meeting of the minds?

My money is on Big George.

Both were massive punchers, so there is going to be a lot of fireworks.

At the end it all comes to who takes a punch better and who has more endurance.
Foreman has the advantage in both items.

It is like the battle between the Bismarck (Battleship) and the Hood (Battlecruiser).
Both ships carried roughly the same amount of huge artillery.
BUT the Bismarck had more armor than the Hood.
Both ships were hit at the engagement: but the Hood was blown to bits while the Bismarck sailed away.

    Same in this boxing match.
Ernie goes down while George walks away scrapped but victorious.

This one is really not in doubt.
Foreman is simply a better slugger & boxer.
The ability to take a punch is the clincher.

The only way Shavers has a realistic chance is if Foreman is in the psychological state & as rusty as when he fought Lyle.
Who he beat anyway, & you know Lyle endured Shaver's bombs & turned it around.

This is a case where 2 guys who were both World Class, & neither has a real stylistic advantage, *still* means that one has very little shot Prime for Prime.

I don't see any scenario where Foreman doesn't win this, the only question is how Foreman wins it.

    Theres two scenarios.

Scenario 1: Foreman blows away Shavers in the first 2 rounds, in a surprisingly very one sided fight.

Scenario 2: Foreman wins again by KO this time in 4 rounds, but Shavers has some moments rocking Foreman possibly flooring him, but once again Foreman wins by KO early but in a tougher fight.

When you have 2 big punchers fighting eachother, but one is a bit of a glass cannon with stamina issues aka Shavers. I don't see how Shavers could possibly be favoured in this match up, barring a very lucky hail mary right hand, but Foreman was only ever stopped once and that was more due to fatigue.

    Nice metaphor.
Both ships have the same artillery (punching power) 8x 381mm guns.
But Bismarck is better armored (better chin).
Admiral ship HMS Hood was sunk by the Germans. Three survivors out of about 1,500 crew members. But Bismarck did not sail further, it was also his last voyage. It was sunk a few days later.
I always thought that in a fight between Foreman and Shavers, the better chin would decide, and that is Foreman's.
    Foreman KO

I think Foreman would get to Earnie first and take him out early. Shavers has a punchers chance of course but probably not a very good one

A slugfest more or less like with Lyle.

    Foreman wins for attrition.

Foreman KO after Shavers lands a couple of bombs to wake George up.

It would be good fun for the short time it lasted. It’s a blink and you’ll miss it fight.

What if Shavers lands the right on George that he landed on Holmes?

Quarry took at least one hard bomb from Earnie and then punched him out - but it wasn’t the best version of Shavers.

Conventional wisdom says George in not too many rounds, even accounting for Shavers’ best case scenario of getting in a few bombs and wobbling or even putting Foreman down.
