What a legend the man is.
    61 today.
He was fighting in a great era of boxers, to get to 89 - 0.. Unbelievable.

    Whats your thoughts on JCC?

I think he is one of the pioneers of Mexican boxing, because of which many young Mexicans started to train boxing.
Julio Cesar Chavez is indirectly the reason we are watching Canelo today. I believe that Julio Cesar Chavez is still number 1 in Mexico in terms of "legendary" and popularity.

For me, he was one of the biggest names of the 80 s.
He was one of the guys in the lower weights that I always wanted to see fight.
    Incredible fighter.

Julio was one of the best fighters to ever lace them up. With the exception of maybe hand speed, he was the complete package. Excellent fundamentals, fearless, educated footwork, relentless pressure, great power, above average defense, inexhaustible conditioning, innate ring IQ and ability to vary his punch selection, and an iron chin. He would be champion in any era.

He is/was a throwback fighter, the way it was, the way it's supposed to be, the way it should be - a 'Prizefighter'...

just get in there, fight, fight often, fight anybody, especially those at the Top - to further Prove you are 'one' of them or Better than them.

He did a lot of padding but afterwards did fight quality names like Rosario, Camacho, Whittaker, Roger, DLH, Taylor etc beating most of em. Even avenging his loss against Randall. I feel weird that Chavez is one of my family names but not a bad name to get in the squared circle with haha. True legend and one of Mexicos finest.

He was NOT a pioneer of great Mexican and Mexican American boxers.... There were many greats Mexican boxers some before Chavez was even born ( Raul Macias? )
Olivares, Zarate, Canto, Pintor, Sanchez and many others were ATG's when Chavez was in grade school.
Chavez was a heck of a fighter and should be in anyone's top five Mexican/ Mexican American boxers in history.
But he wasn't a pioneer of boxing in Mexico.
Their were more Mexican Atg's prior to his ascension than since he retired.
Canelo in comparison to the truly great Mexican fighters, isn't a great fighter.

Mexico has a rich history in boxing. JCC was not the first boxing Star from Mexico or the last.
What Made JCC great was that he represented The Mexican Style of Boxing. That of a Warrior.
    Stamina with power for days
    Combinations- head and body
Close range fighting - toe to toe action
    Postioning - maximize pressure

    Happy Birf day Champ!

Not given enough credit for holding Whitaker to a draw while shopworn and fighting over his natural weight. A true great performance.

His dominant 1987 lightweight title win against Edwin Rosario was one of the great performances in the list of highly anticipated title fights where prefight, the odds were regarded as being generally 50/50 or too close to call. This was the fight that truly earned him his nickname JC Superstar.

In fact I would go far as say that he was the second greatest JC ever, from biblical to modern times. Second only to the greatest JC that ever existed……

    Amazing fighter.
I think if he had learned English (He tried but found it too difficult) he was have made a lot more money and would have been more popular in the States.
That said, he did okay for himself. (deliberate understatement)
